Is there any symbolism to buck wearing green, "evil" buck wearing blue, and Chris wearing a green and blue striped shirt in the hallway?
lovely having you in my inbox!
I've been contemplating this a fair bit since you sent it to me - in part because I was wracking my brain and notes to figure out why the tee was so familiar to me. Now I've figured out the missing connection with Christophers tee - see this post I made, I'm inclined to lean towards them not really being connected per say, because I think the connection with that shirt is much more about a conversation about fatherhood - being a good father and Buck reckoning with that both in the real world and in the coma world - because Christophers entire presence (and Eddies to a certain extent) in the coma world was about Buck having some knowledge on a subconscious level that he is a father to Christopher - whether or not he's fully accepted that as fact in the real world, or if its something he's still not allowing himself to acknowledge remain to be seen - I think its something we'll see him figure out in the rest of the season - especially with this being the season of father-son relationships especially and the idea of dna not being the thing that necessarily makes a father, and especially the thing that makes a good father.
That being said I do think its interesting to consider the two versions of Buck - the good green version and the evil blue version - being 'at war' with each other as to their place in the world - wanted and important versus unimportant and unwanted and how that is ultimately what Buck is wrestling with on multiple levels and in various ways - with his biological parents, with the firefam, with Bobby, with himself, and with Christopher and his place in Christopher's life. so I think we can probably say that the blue v green of it all is connected on a higher level - in that Buck is essentially stuck between his super ego (green) and his id (blue) trying to figure out his place in Christophers life and if he can think of himself as a father. Buck has always been someone afraid of taking too much, so I don't think he's really allowed himself to accept the full reality of Eddies will and what it actually means - I think Eddie (or even Christopher himself) might have to be a little more explicit with him for him before he really gets it and settles with it.
Now that Buck figured out he had to go back for himself, he can begin to sort though all the other things - because until Buck recognised that he was worth a lot to a lot of people, he was never going to really truly make progress on all the other things going on. The green and blue of it all is tying various strands together in that respect!
I'm not sure if this even makes sense, or if it answers your question, but thank you for an interesting ask! I might have to write a slightly more detailed meta on the green and blue of Buck if I get a chance because its fascinating!!
