100% Olive-Derived Squalane Oil: Biomimetic plant-derived oil that provides deep, long-lasting moisture and improve skin barrier over time.
Results: This is one of my new favorite things. I kept hearing about the miracle of Typology skincare, so I went to their site to check out the offerings and took their little diagnosis quiz. One thing they recommend was olive-derived squalane oil, which I happened to know I could find cheaper elsewhere.
Most oils don't really do anything for me. This actually seals in my moisturizer overnight. When I wake up in the morning, my skin isn't dry.
It's very important though that you look for olive-derived squalane oil. Sugarcane-derived squalane oil--as most squalane oils are these days--absorbs fast and is considered more of a dry-touch oil suitable for oily skin. Olive-derived squalane absorbs slower and is recommended for people with dry skin. Neither of which is to be confused with squalene oil, which comes from shark livers.
As a single-source oil, you can combine this with any other products you wish in your skincare routine and it won't be negatively affected at all.
Comps: Some other brands that have olive-derived squalane oil include Good Molecules Squalane Oil ($8.00/0.4 fl oz), which is a good deal if you just want to try it without dropping a ton of money; Indie Lee Squalane Facial Oil ($38.00/1 fl oz); and Typology L34 Nourishing Serum 100% Olive-Derived Squalane ($48.90/1 fl oz).
If you look up "olive-derived squalane oil," you will find some additional hits, but don't be fooled, read the descriptions. For example, The Ordinary Squalane Oil kept popping up in my search results, but if you look in the description it says that it's derived from sugarcane. Just make sure you're double-checking to make sure which is which.
