Echoes

In her cage of her own making made of velvet pouches, she had become a collector of fates lost in golden-edged dreams, chasing echoes of insight she once found between the cards. Now they sat silent, their painted jesters smirking from the shadows. She was chasing. The cards called it forgetting. She traded the Priestess for a newer Muse under a different name, shuffled stale spells, and waited for a spark that wouldn’t come.

Then today she saw it. The truth had never lived in the cards. It lived in the space between questions. The symbols weren’t the source. She was. The decks fell away. The laughter returned. And she finally understood, the oracles had been reading her all along.
