"y'all need to be put on a watchlist lor liking this stuff" then you need to be put on one for liking shows where people try to kill each other! fiction DOES affect reality, you're probably gonna commit mass murder if you watch shows like that! oh your favorite character is the VILLAIN too? oh i just KNOW you'd kill a person. /sarc

not to make large assumtions, but i think the reason antis are more disgusted by sexual violence in fiction than other kinds of violence is because a lot of them have more experience with sexual violence than they do other kinds. obviously i understand people will often be more repulsed by depictions of traumatic experiences that they or someone they know have been through before, but it's also important to realize that the same applies to things like murder and obsessive love and whatnot, which—to antis—seems to be perfectly fine as long as it's fictional. i know people who have nearly been killed, i myself have been stalked, and we are affected by those just as much as those who have been sexually assaulted, groomed, and raped.

many darkshippers and those that enjoy taboo topics are people who have gone through trauma themselves (although you don't need to undergo a specific trauma to enjoy any kind of fictional story) and it's much better for many people to find ways to explore their trauma rather than trying to block it out.

even the people without trauma can explore these taboo topics by indulging in and creating darker media. if not for seeing stories about it and learning of so many different ways bad things can happen, a lot less people would be understanding of victims. yes, even in romanticization of it! there are so many cases in which victims romanticize their own trauma while it's happening. by erasing fetishizations and romanticizations of taboo subjects, you are still erasing stories that people can relate to and find themselves in.

in no way are people who like taboo subjects in fiction "normalizing" it in real life. in no way do those people want more real life victims. in no way do those people want others to get hurt.

if there's anything triggering or anything you don't want to see, you can block tags or block the blogs that post those things. if it's a topic you don't like, then the story just wasn't made for you. that's fine. not everything is for everyone. nobody is judging you for being uncomfortable seeing depictions of traumatic experiences. it's just bad when you start to police what other people can and cannot write.

do you ever notice how antishippers will like say writers who write dark stuff must be fucked up themselves, and therefore must be censored.

but like. do you think they'll one day to the same to other crafters, like songwriters? filmmakers? even some choreographers, one could argue, can make dancing look really erotic or "darkly themed". do you think there'll be a day where they work to censor ALL art - any expression of "dark" themes?

am i crazy for thinking this? do you worry about that too?

OH GOSH I NEVER GOT A NOTIF FOR THIS SORRY!!! but yes i agree wholeheartedly and i do worry about that too. i've seen it happen with songs and books and art before in cases when the media wasn't even portraying anything "problematic" (i don't like that word but i can't think of a better one atm) at all, like if they talked about sex too much or weed or whatever. most of them will not stop until everything is as pure as it can be. and if their wishes come to fruition it can and will backfire on them when their own creative freedom is destroyed too
