Dead, but still human || Zombie!AU
Death. It was always supposed to be the end. The black dot at the end of a long, draining sentence. Ryan had always believe that was how it was; capital letter, the letters in between, full-stop. He hadn't the slightest clue as to how he died, nor why he was suddenly animate again, but he had no choice but to carry on. At first, he wondered if it was some sort of sign, that he was 'the chosen one'- of what, well, he hadn't decided yet, but it was a nice theory for the first few months. In the end, he was just another victim to a plague that had blanketed each and every spec of land on this planet. It was sad to think that everything was dying, but it was- excusing the pun- just life.
By now, Ryan felt he'd walked the entire of America. His feet didn't ache, his heart didn't slow nor quicken. He was a skeletal structure of dead cells and rotting organs- certainly not the most attractive of looks nor smells, but one he would have to cope with. He was covered in blood, most of which wasn't his own; bless that poor wandering soul who crossed paths with a hungry Ryan.
Staggering down the dusty, winding road that lead toward no where important, Ryan clung onto the items in his pockets. A device that played music and, in the other pocket, the remains of his last victim's brain. He planned to chill out once he'd found a place to stay for the night. Sure, he could wander all day and night long, but he was feeling particularly lazy today. Bringing himself to what seemed to be a deserted wooden building, Ryan let a groan slip past his blood-stained lips. It wasn't like he could say much else. You never really know how much you take speech for granted until you lose it; and that applies to memories too.
