#3426 - Oenothera lindheimeri - Clockweed
Formerly Gaura lindheimeri, AKA Lindheimer's beeblossom, white gaura, pink gaura, Lindheimer's clockweed, and Indian feather. Named by American botanist Asa Grey, after Ferdinand Jacob Lindheimer, a German-born botanist who collected extensively in Texas.
I certainly wasn't expecting this to be in the Oenothera genus - all the other Evening Primroses around here are bright yellow.
Native to Texas and Louisiana, now a popular and drought-tolerant ornamental in many parts of the world. Flowers may be anything between almost white to dark pink, depending on cultivar, or even white at dawn then turning pink before falling off at dusk.
Golden Bay, Perth. Probably an escapee from a neighbouring garden.
Clockweed
Oenothera lindheimeri, formerly Guara lindheimeri
Aka. Lindheimer's beeblossom, white/pink guara, indian feather, wandflower
These perennials are native to south Louisiana and Texas. They like full sun and well drained soil.
They are grown as ornamental plants. There are several cultivars.
