I'm in a bit of a doodle mood, and a dark turtle mood, which is an interesting combination

So if anyone wants to send questions in about the dark turtles (collectively, the durtles, now) I'll doodle up some answers for them! I can't promise to answer them all, but it might be fun!

Turtle Clones

So I re-watched “Mystic Mayhem” and noticed Draxum

a) is obsessed with turning humans into creatures like himself, and

b) uses purple goopy organic stuff to fight.

Both are also true for Sh’Okanabo, a villain from the 2003 show’s season six.

This comparison gave me the answer to a question I’ve been asking since “Bug Busters”: if Draxum was so interested in the turtles in the first episode, why did he drop Leo off the building and later become determined to kill them all? Obviously he’s the bad guy, but the turtles were apparently very important to his research. Wouldn’t killing them be a huge waste of effort?

Like Sh’Okanabo, he can do all kinds of batshit science-magic. It likely wouldn’t be too hard for Draxum to scrape a bit of Leo off the sidewalk and just... make a new one. Given that the turtles grew up completely separate from Draxum and have already clashed with him, trying to convince or brainwash them would be very risky. It would be better to make new soldiers that are tougher than the originals.

And once you’ve made those soldiers, you of course use them to get rid of your enemies.

And that is exactly what Sh’Okanabo did.

Every time the tmnt hyper fixation carousel circles back around and bonks me on the back of my head, I end up re-designing the 03 dark turtles for my take in whatever the current tmnt obsession is. ROTTMNT has been no exception. Have a Dark Donnie, and Dark Mikey!

Turtle Clones... Again!

So if Rise does go with the clone turtle plot, what are their names going to be?

In 2k3 the original turtles just called them “Dark Leo” and so on, but they never called each other anything. I like to think they would have chosen names for themselves if they had gotten more screentime.

Rise!Splinter’s color names seemed like just a gag at the time, but “Maroon”, “Violet”, “Cyan”, and “Yellow” would be easier for small children to remember than, say, Bernini, Caravaggio, Maderno, and Botechelli.
