Come over to ol’ Clopey, drift off and close your eyes Here, I’ll tell you a story, about what? It’s a surprise Even bring in some snacks, some water from the kitchen Enjoy Clopey’s old tales, this one’s particularly bitchin’ Right around these woods, there lives an elephant, just a calf Up-ended from his jungle, taller than than the trees by half Perpetually unwanted by the others, because of his mass But with surprisingly delicate feet, like glass Up and around he’d go, taking in all of the sights To which he had an advantage, thanks to these heights Then along came an ass, a donkey, a shorty Even with those strong legs, he wasn’t really sporty Right through his life he wanted to see the sky flood Cerulean and pink, violet and orange, mud and blood Up and up was a place he couldn’t see, but just Pretended he could, dreamed he could, through the earth’s dust Ignoring the others, he went to the elephant, a touch frighten Leaving his safety to ask if perhaps he could heighten Over the trees to see what he wanted, a sight like no other- Veering down, the elephant grabbed him, careful not to smother Each face was full of smiles when the donkey’s want was quenched Yawning as the sun went down, in the elephant’s trunk clenched Others can make you smile, and happy, if so kindly pressed Unlikely, you think? I have made it my best quest.
(Additional note, read the first letter of each line, kiddo.)
