We've all been there. You see a really cute dress, or pair of shoes, and decide to take a chance and order it. If you're lucky, you get what you ordered. If you're less lucky.... at best it doesn't fit quite right, at worst it's bad quality or straight up something else entirely.

But let's assume for a moment you're getting exactly what's pictured. How do you make sure it fits right? To start, you're going to want to track your measurements. For this, you want measuring tape, specifically the flexible kind intended for sewing. You can get them pretty cheap on Amazon, but you can typically find them at a local craft store, and sometimes even in a grocery store (to be fair I've only seen that once, so don't get mad if your local one doesn't have it in the random supplies aisle). I recommend getting a tape measure that has both inches and centimeters on it, so you always know what size regardless of the measurements used by the store.

Once you have your measuring tape, you're going to want to take each of your sizes. Generally you'll want to be in your underwear for this, and for bust measurements I recommend wearing the bra etc you plan to wear underneath the outfit.

‧₊˚❀༉‧₊˚. For bust, I recommend taking measurement at both the furthest out it goes as well as the under-bust (underneath the bust and on top of your ribs. For most clothing you only need the bust, but some you'll want the under-bust as well.

‧₊˚❀༉‧₊˚. For waist I take measurements in two spots. One is the upper waist, basically slightly above your belly button and typically the narrowest part of your waist (may not always be the case, different bodies work different ways!). The second is the lower waist, right above your hips but below the belly button. Different clothes will have the waistline in different places, so it's important to have both measurements and check the length of clothes to ensure where the waist will fall.

‧₊˚❀༉‧₊˚. Hips are a bit more straightforward, I personally take the measurement not strictly of my hips but the fullest part of my butt instead. This will ensure there's no surprises, particularly with pants and skirts (feels bad moment when you get a cute skirt that fits your waist but you can't slide it over your butt...)

From there, it's time to choose clothing! You want to be careful when purchasing online, and make sure you vet the sites first to be safe. Even then, certain sites such as Amazon have a ton of false advertising when it comes to clothing, and sadly you can't even always trust the reviews on there. If you are ordering off Amazon, make sure to check for reviews with pictures or videos, since those will hopefully give a better idea of how the item actually looks... though be aware that sometimes those will mislead you too...
