"Darlings, stay here." The gentle, familiar voice whispered. "Mommy--" "Mommy will be back! Just stay." Jolting up from her bed, gleaming sweat drops streamed down the sides of her face while both of her hands clenched onto the top of her head, a piercing scream filling the vacant apartment. It was every once in awhile when that day would come to haunt her. The familiar sound of the gunshot echoed within her mind. Desperate pleas, tears, and crimson. Mira felt as if she was becoming insane, tugging and striking at her head to desperately erase every aspect of the pain-filled memory. It was no use. With blurry vision due to her tears, her eyes landed onto her bedside table to see her cell phone. Feeling her heart clench in her chest, Mira knew in an instant that there was only one way to make the pain subside. Jake. She wasted no time reaching out for her cell phone before dialing the number. The repetitive ringing was endless. It made her heartbeat race, her throat dry, even causing more tears to run down her pale-colored cheeks. Why wasn't he picking up? Then realization struck her. The time difference. Shit! What time was it for him? Rotating her head to her clock beside her, it read midnight. Mira didn't even bother to do the math upon hearing one last ring. She had gone through it herself for years. There was no way she was going to bring her close friend into this, into her problems. Her eyes read no expression as she began to pull the object away from her ear. Give up, Mira. You're a big girl. You can handle it yourself. "Hello..?" A husky voice muttered from the other line. Tear filled eyes widened, a hint of shock in them though instantly bringing the phone back to her ear.
