located outside of shrike mall
this is a closed starter for @julianhyun
veronica’s family warned her before she moved away from them that she might come to need them and that she might come to regret her decision, but no matter what predicament she had gotten herself into she had been able to manage it perfectly fine by herself. through struggles apartment hunting, troubles dealing with cultural differences, having her heart broken, living in a town filled with killers on the loose and everything in between, veronica had been able to deal just fine by herself. she felt capable, perfectly independent, strong and brave, but then she had an encounter with the skeleton and she felt stripped of all of those things.
now veronica desperately wished to have her mother by her side to care for her and to heal her wounds, her abuela with her to reignite the spark inside of her that contained her strength and her bravery, her older sister around to march down to the mall and discuss her time off of work at all three of her workplaces and her father at the door watching out for any more forces of evil that threatened to hurt her. she missed her family more than she could say, she missed the comfort they provided and the help they would have offered immediately. veronica felt a lot like a scared child right now, so vulnerable, so hopeless, so close to tears.
regardless of how she felt, however, she was well aware of that fact that she was a grown adult who had to deal with all aspects of the aftermath of the attack. she kept trying to tell herself that she was lucky to only have a head injury, but she knew luck hadn’t truly been by her side and in the back of her mind she knew she only kept telling herself this to ensure her feet kept moving as she made her way to the mall to organise leave at get juiced, julio’s and the very place that the attack had happened - key of reason. it would have been easier to call these places and request what she needed to, but it seemed that every time a manager picked up the phone veronica’s mind paralysed her and rendered her unable to speak of what happened or why she needed a break.
for some reason she thought she would be more successful in person, but the paralysis stemming from fear that she had felt on the phone followed her to the mall and it stopped her from entering. ’it was only one small incident’ she thought, ‘i should be over it by now, and beyond able to do this’ she was frustrated, wishing for things to be easier, but what she wished for and what was able to be her reality weren’t the same things. hopeless wasn’t an emotion veronica was used to, but she was soaking it up uninterrupted - until she saw julian approaching. he was exactly what she needed, she realised suddenly, as he was one of her unofficial family members here in shrike heights. perhaps he would be of service, perhaps he could provide her with with the help she wished her family back home could provide her. “julian!” she called, her desperate tone of voice reminding her of just how difficult she felt this time was.
