Week One is Orientation Week! That means it’s the time for managers and counselors to understand the routine and get to know each other! Ice breakers, team building exercises, and training are all underway. The kids will be arriving Week Two (Clue Timestamps).
The age range for the kids is 7-18, all of whom have different roles and responsibilities. CIT’s can be 17 and up, and Counselors are any age over 18 who have completed the training, and Managers are any age but have to do at least two years of Counselor-ship to quality. Age groups are by birth year and month. Kids 7-9 are called Tadpoles, 10-12 are called Cubs, 13-15 are Juniors, and 16-18 are Seniors.
All campers sleep in beautiful roomy log cabins, but Tadpoles and Cubs sleep in groups of 10, with 2 counselors (spare room), and 1 manager (spare room). Juniors and Seniors have bunk beds and room with 15 other campers per cabin, with 2 counselors per group. CITs have their own cabins and work with assigned groups part time and complete training activities with managers (and Winnie).
HQ Building is where Winnie, special guests, and some senior staff live for the Summer season. It has a rec room and a fully functional kitchen on the main floor which is accessible to the senior campers, CITs, Counselors and Managers during recreation time. The upper floors have common rooms and private rooms.
Some key locations:
HQ Building: main office and information, closest to the road and parking lot which fits busses and cars alike. Senior staff and guests sleep there, and it also has a rec room and fully functional kitchen. Campers convene outside every morning for announcements.
Dining Hall: salad bars (fruit and veg), and a wide selection of local foods, almost exclusively from Mistpitch or nearby farms. Allergies and food restrictions are strongly accommodated.
Smoking Areas: Senior campers who speak to managers the first week are allowed to use the smoking areas. All legal age people may use them. There are 5 on the land, they’re all basically gazebos and have bug zappers installed. Cannabis use is permitted by legal adults, at select times.

Juliet’s right leg was amputated following a vehicle-pedestrian collision. She endured a host of injuries that could have killed her, but losing her leg had the worst psychological effect on her because of her dancing career. Juliet wears a Ottobock X3 waterproof prosthetic leg, which is most technologically advanced microprocessor prosthetic on the market. She has several different modes programmed into the leg that accommodate the different activities she does, and different terrains. She has to charge her leg nightly to maintain its internal mechanics and for optimal walking safety. Juliet has a cover shield and prosthetic covers that she can switch out to match outfits (the orangey red is this year’s T-Shirt colour for the camper).
These are flipped, her prosthetic is on the RIGHT leg! A great example of how the prosthetic looks and general movement is this adorable para-athlete, Alyssa, who I was so thrilled to find. Juliet is more muscular in comparison because she lifts weight and does functional and mobility work to help her misalignments. She also uses a cane for longer distances, and while she has great endurance, sometimes her chronic nerve pain is worse one day and she’d rather save her energy and use forearm crutches or a manual wheelchair (last resort). She wears a special shrinker sock on her residual limb to aid with swelling, and to maintain size to fit in the socket of her prosthetic, which is important because refittings take a while and cost a lot.
She wears regular shoes and has a special souls to keep them from falling off. And she can’t wear high heels without some kind of platforms or walking gets complicated. So she feels most secure in ankle boots and a variety of sneakers (she has a few pairs of Vessi waterproof vegan shoes, in different colours, including a matching coral pair).

Alec was born in Mistpitch to family that had roots in the Ascot and Elmira areas. He was a quiet kid and took an interest in cooking from his grandmother, eventually taking that passion all the way to culinary school out of province. But his first Summer staying in his college town, at the age of 22, Alec was kidnapped by a serial killer that was known as The Butterfly Killer, at the same time as another woman. He was held for twenty seven days and endured lacerations and electrocution and waterboarding, as well as witnessing the same and worst happen to the woman he’d been taken with.
She told him her name before she died, likely of heart failure, and he has carried that with him every day since. He was discovered in only a pair of sweatpants in a pile of garbage, wounded but otherwise healthy. But he never really recovered emotionally. He moved back to Mistpitch and was not seen for many months, only seeing a therapist and doctors while he was at his rock bottom. Slowly over the next several years he got better, but it took him almost ten years to be able to pick up a knife again and fall in love with cooking.
A regular murder tourist became his on again, off again girlfriend who was doing her thesis on the Moore Murders. She was selfish and pushy and a little mean, and didn’t like kids, practically avoiding Norfolk all together during the summer to avoid the campers. When he was well into his 35th year, she got pregnant and despite her dislike of kids she said she’d go through with it. For Alec, this was a life changer, and he found a new found hope and joy in life, and everything revolved around their daughter. Gemma. But [ name] was restless and impatient and borderline neglectful, to the point where Alec didn’t like leaving her alone with their baby.
Barely a month into Gemma’s life, [name] found out that Alec had named her after the woman he was held captive with and she flipped. In the span of two days she had packed her things and left him with a new born, having been unable to look at nor call the baby by anything but her middle name, Lucia. Alec dedicated himself to Gemma, and reclaimed his life after [name] left. With the help of his family he moved into a new home in Elmira and eventually became the cook for the Norfolk Summer Camp, the perfect place for his now two and a half year old daughter.
The lousy baby mama is a wanted connection.
