when i was younger there was times i genuinely couldnt speak when i wanted to. is this an adhd thing? mostly happened when my anxiety acted up but i had a lot of issues like this, like ive been told a lot, by a lot of people, i speak incoherently at times. It even happens when i write. I tend to be having weird thoughts.
It sounds like selective mutism to me. The incoherent speech thing can be related to ADHD since sometimes our minds just get ahead of our mouths (or our fingers when typing).

is incoherent speech a thing in adhd? i think visually and say things visually without really saying that i have, and people get confused. Maybe im receiving a bigger reaction than needed but Ive always had difficulty communicating myself clearly andbeing understood. It could be a bad thinking technique, i have deaf parents so i grew up signing too if that could matter? i was thought to be dyslexic somehow in school too. people just dont think I make any sense when i get hyper. is this a thing?
ADHDers sometimes have cluttered speech, so that could be part of it for you. Another thing that’s possible is that because you grew up signing you have a different first language (sign language is a whole language with a different grammatical structure and stuff from English) so you’re having to translate from sign to English when you speak. I think this happens with people who are bilingual sometimes.
Followers, can anyone confirm?

@Anon who described their speech issues: maybe try looking up "speech cluttering." It's a relatively newly understood speech disorder. It's not the same as ADHD, but the two are a little alike because they both have a lot to do with disorganized thoughts in the mind and trouble "working out your thoughts." Hope learning about this might help you!
i got diagnosed with a speech disorder called cluttered speech, which is caused by my adhd bc my thoughts and mouth don't work on the same wavelength, and ill start saying something but then my mind will start thinking of other things and not allow me to finish. do you have any ideas of things i could use to help?
This isn’t something I have experience with personally, so I don’t have a lot of advice. There are several forms of treatment often used for cluttered speech, like language therapy or Delayed Auditory Feedback. If that’s something you want to try, you should definitely bring it up with your doctor and ask what kind of treatment is available.
J also suggested that writing or typing what you want to say might be helpful. This of course depends on whether or not the cluttering affects your writing too, but it could be worth a try.
