You took a Blood Oath! Commander Challenge: CM17 Vampires, Licia.
Better late than never, right?
Here’s our Bad-ass General, Licia. With a $100 budget, we’ll have to see if our Blood Oath can do some things.
If you just want to look at the deck. Well, you can see it here.
Well, we must also discuss something. The deck is actually $100-$101, due to a card not having a price in TCG player. That’s Bruse Tarl, who ranges from $4-$5. So we did kind of fail.
Life Gain
Well one of the things that make Licia interesting, is the fact that she can relatively cost us 3 mana. That’s due to her firs effect. So we gain life, she costs less. It gets around the Commander Tax. So that’s neat. We have quite a number of cards that gain life. About 20 to be exact, or well make things have Life-gain.
One of the better life gain cards in the deck. This allows us to survive devastating blow, if we have to be defensive.
Listen, we are a 3 color “life-gain deck”. Sovereign can just out right win the game. There’s no reason not to play this and if it can help us.
Simply put, double life gain is amazing...add double-strike, get Licia out no matter what?
Singular Removal
So we c an win through General damage. Sometime there’s only one pesky blocker. We have a total of 8 them.
Gets through that pesky indestructible creatures.
A “Vindicate” on a stick. This is a sort of “sorcery speed”, at only our turn, but we can indeed use this as a combat trick. Oh, we’ll have a ton of life to do this.
Want to Win with Commander Challenge
So we have a few ways of winning, but hey. Our Commander has the ability to win one handed. Oh, and another way.
Like True Conviction, this gets us to the end zone with a pumped up Licia.
This just out right wins us the game against someone. Paired up with the above mentioned, we have a 5/4 Licia with double strike. Sometimes an opponent will let it through, because 10 Commander damage won’t out-right kill them. That’s where this comes in handy. It’s a one-shot that many people wouldn’t expect.
What to add for a larger budget?
While a late game card, and in certain groups, fair too late to play. This is another Faith Mender. Yup, they stack. This is really for a slower version of the deck.
Actually on curve with Licia (If we can’t get her to be cheaper). We’re an aggressive deck. This is a perfect addition to it. Also let’s that Infect strategy work because it gives trample. It’s also $20, so please invest in cards like these.
I mean, give us indestructible. Also she on her own is aggressive enough to win in this deck. She’s also $30. Invest in her if you want her.
In Conclusion
Licia is a great aggressive Commander, who has a fun way of getting around Commander tax. If the budget were much larger, I’d go the route of making this a Voltron like deck. Having the wacky life-gain aspect makes for a slower, yet aggressive strategy. Overall if you’re looking for a Commander who makes you swear a blood oath. Pick up Licia in the new Commander 2017 product.
As always, thanks for reading.
Until next time.
