We filmed the board members at global recruitment firm RSA Group. Recorded at their UK headquarters in the grounds of Hatfield House the videos are being used in conjunction with the launch of their new website and are being used to help humanise the company to it's clients.
We recently read an article in The Marketer Magazine by John Manning about how businesses can and should use video to promote their brands and create a following to a brand. A really interesting article which stressed that the idea of 'less is more' is key to engaging with customers through this medium and to build a loyal following of viewers, selling needs to be pushed to the back of your mind.
Its definitely worth looking at some of this advice before you enter into your own video production project.
YouTube is streaming four billion videos a day with 60 hours of new content being added every minute of the day and it is now the second biggest search engine in the world after Google.
Cisco predicts that within four years video will account for nearly three quarters of all internet consumer traffic
Appliances Online found that when a potential customer watches one of its video reviews, they spend more time on the site, are 120% more likely to buy and spend 9.1% more per order
Cisco's USA sales team found that using video as a sales tool saw the average sales cycle speed up by nearly 10% and led to them making 30% more sales
So why is video suddenly booming like this? Its certainly got something to do with accessibility. Its cheaper to produce these days, the technology is there for people to make videos more easily and, according to Matt Pierce of Techsmith "Video is a great storyteller."
"It has the ability to entertain, educate and inspire in ways that text and images struggle to do," he continues.
Video can elicit emotional responses and this is key in it's success in connecting with consumers. In addition video also suits the fast moving lifestyle of the modern consumer - images can be striking but not necessarily engaging and text just takes too much effort to read according to Fiona Harkin of Stylus.
How Can It Be Used?
Education and training can be delivered far more effectively than in text and showing people how to use a product is much more successful than telling them according to Heather Baker of Topline Communications.
A good video production can also visually explain and demonstrate complex concepts and products in a way that makes it easier to understand for the consumer. A three minute video tutorial could replace pages and pages of text.
What About The Content?
The modern video is all about awareness and not direct selling for businesses. We are seeing a move away from direct promotional videos and more towards branded, relevant, interesting content according to Fiona Harkin.
Its all about creating a positive brand perception and encouraging loyalty by making your brand a trusted source of information. Thats why 'how to' videos are proving popular - providing useful information to the consumer linked to a specific brand.
Will Anyone See It?
Once you have created your video its vital that your target audience gets to see it. Once you know who you are trying to talk to this will guide the type of video, the content and how you will distribute it. Embedding it on to your website is an obvious one but setting up a YouTube channel for your business is another means to open the opportunity for more content to be added.
You can also use your social media to get the video to your customers and even embed the video into emails. Most importantly, a video should not be a stand alone promotional tool. It should be integrated into an overall marketing plan where it can be used as a driver to other activity and assets or other channels can drive customers to the video - either way it should be just one piece of a promotional campaign.
