Omshivaprakash as co-founder of Sanchaya, Sanchi Foundation and Servants of Knowledge - shared his experiences building support tools for Kannada language and literature using tech.
What started off as a blog in 2005, turned into in meetups that grew by the hundreds, and became a volunteer driven community that took on various challenges that were faced while attempting to engage with Kannada over the digital medium.
Soon there were need based initiatives bridging language and tech, and knowledge with open source access. Over time, mere problem solving exercises became intense projects that now serve as base tools for research and learning.
From explorations of text to speech, ocr, support for the visually impaired, and licensing, to searchability, font support and digitisation of libraries, to documentation and archival of culture and heritage - the platforms developed have become a layered model that contribute to preservation of a language."

CM #84 was a reminder of our own roots as a community and how we have become distant from what used to be the cultural rhythm of life! Folklorist Dr. S Balaji shared about his 30+ years engaging with Janapada life ways and artists. A takeaway from his talk was that [translated] for as long as we call our mother "mother", folklore will stay alive. It can never be lost, but will only transform over time. We thank Kannada Janapada Parishath for the knowledge sharing. A shout out to venue partner Artkhoj, snack partner Kiru Millet Snacks and souvenir partner Mudfingers for the support to making this talk a rich and eventful one!
