Oscar-winning Portland animator Mark Gustafson dies at 64

His Oscar win for “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,” brought renewed attention to Gustafson and stop-motion animation.

Sad news in both animation and stop motion commentaries...today, February 2nd, Co-director of Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, Mark Gustafson has recently passed away at just 64 years of age.

He was a amazing animation visionary, always pushing the limits of Stop motion while crafting the art of being a loveable smartness.

May he rest in peace 🕊️

Special Release Weekend Screening of “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part”. This event was hosted by Warner Animation Group at the Steven J. Ross Theater on Warner Bros Studio Lot. In attendance were ASIFA-Hollywood and Women In Animation members. A Q&A followed the screening with co-director Trish Gum, editor Clare Knight, moderated by co-producer Kristen Murtha. 

One very special guest in attendance was Ryker Overacker. A young filmmaker who had just released his own independent film “Beverly Hills Heroes” and hopes to make a Lego movie of his own as his next project.

Co-director Trish Gum is known for her work Robot Chicken, The Lego Batman Movie and the Emmy winning Pre-School Children's Animated Program Tumble Leaf.
