“HUNGRY DOG OF THE DESERT”

From a small town in Oaxaca with Zapotec roots, Ricardo Angeles Mendoza grew up in the family workshop using wood and paint to help make the town’s brightly colored folk art “alebrijes.” Studying in Mexico City, and determined to avoid working in the arts, Mendoza’s adventures on the streets exposed him to a new breadth of artistic expressions and materials and he was soon painting larger and larger murals himself. While his style is still evolving Mendoza says four constants are man, nature, technology, and spirit and the relationships between them. In November, 2017 Mendoza created this new wall on Orchard St in Coachella’s Vietnam Veterans Park as part of the @CoachellaWalls project.
