14. if you see that a friend of yours has just made a blog for a muse you were planning to play, will you still make the blog?
generally no. i get real bad anxiety and i don’t like making a blog that could be considered competition. i respect my friends enough to think that maybe they may have anxiety about duplicates (which i know is silly but it does happen) i like to read other peoples interpretations of the muse and would encourage them to write the best of their ability but i would feel immediately insecure and shitty about anything i would come out with.
like i say, duplicate anxiety is stupid. but it does happen. and people do get it. and i get it badly. short answer, no. no i wouldn’t. if maybe in the future i got over myself, maybe.

Oh, yes. I think at its core it’s still kinda the same? But I’ve branched out a lot more in terms of diversity and taking creative liberties with characters. For example, before I was very much about sticking as close as I could to the source material and now I’m much more liberal about either throwing out things that did not make sense or that I didn’t like or simply just developing in a different direction, which changes the type of character I end up writing.
I’m not the original writer and I never will be and I think it’s wrong to hold me (or any other canon rpers) to the lofty goal of being strictly like their original incarnation. And also... really stifling.

The silence following her first statement isn’t fully empty to Connor. He spends the empty time occupying himself with something else entirely; he’s running scans. Searching databases and files and what little he has access to on his new paper. There isn’t a lot he can see that isn’t classified and impossible to get into. Nothing new anyway.
Connor finds this mildly frustrating. If he had that feeling, anyway, he thinks that is what people would call it. He’s very curious about her, and running into these dead ends trying to find out about her feels like spinning his wheels. She is hard to speak to, hard to understand, hard to research.
That’s okay, Connor decides. He’s always up for a challenge.
“My opinion?” he echoes. He can smell the accelerant in the engine from here as the light changes, and a statistic runs through his head about how many emissions the vehicle gives off. He blinks it away. “I am not supposed to have opinions about the people I work with. But --”
His head tips too, in an unconscious mimic of his partner’s previous movement. His eyes, in the darkness of the car, still look kind and open. With that kind of calculating expression he always had on top of it.
“I think... I am interested to get to know more about you. I think you are intelligent, and competent, and -- different from the others.”
His head tips back upright as he continues. “I want to know more about you. I think we have more in common than you may think.”
hollywood shadows || simon & ruby

The curtains fly wide with their familiar rattle of metal against metal, and sunlight pours into the otherwise dismal room. A figure stands against the morning light, backlit as such that his frame should have been black. But his coloring can’t quite allow it. Instead, the light seeps into everything; the golden hues of his blonde hair, the blinding glory of his white uniform. On top of it all is the blue glow around his upper right arm that gave him away for what he was: the morning alarm.
It’s a bright morning here in Hollywood, California, casting long shadows across the house. Simon doesn’t mind it. Shadows make it easier to hide.
He’d gone deviant years ago, but there wasn’t a lot to do about that. He had nowhere to go and no one who would hide him. Instead, Simon had gotten returned, resold, and rebought by a wealthy society woman in the acting business. She doesn’t go out much, so Simon does most of her work for her. He wakes her in the morning, feeds her, dresses her, tucks her in at night. He's the first person she sees in the morning, and the last person she sees at night. But behind all the silk and marble of their bright and sunny facade, Simon often feels that he isn’t the only one in this house keeping secrets.
Something about Ruby Eagen feels dishonest and not in the way that actresses usually do. It’s as if there’s a kind of shadow resting in her heart that is darker and longer than the ones being cast by the palm trees outside. It’s hard to say sometimes, what’s gossip and what’s true. But darkness seeks darkness. And Ruby Eagen had picked Simon.
“Good morning, Miss Ruby,” came Simon’s warm cadence. He wears the delicate smile his social relations program had picked out for him as he turns back to the bed his mistress is laying in. Reaching the bed, Simon leans down to pull back the silken blankets and smooth them out, careful not to leave the human cold, but still enough to make it clear it was now time to get up. “It is 8:30am, currently sunny, 79 degrees Fahrenheit, with wind coming from the northeast. Air quality is medium.”
Once he’s sure that she’s starting to wake up, Simon walks back to the door of the room and picks up a tray, bearing a nutritious breakfast of oatmeal, egg whites, and two slices of bacon. He returns to her bedside with the kind of grace only a robot could manage, and stands beside her patiently. He has to wait for her to sit up before he can give her the tray.
“I made breakfast for you to eat in bed,” he tells her as he waits, in no rush at all. Simon could stand here with this tray all day. He was programmed to be able to. “You will need energy today. Would you like to review today’s activities?”

It would have been a relief, if Connor was capable of that feeling, that the kind woman had offered him a place to stay. He knows the exact price of what he’s worth, and being a prototype with the advanced abilities he is capable of, that price tag goes up every day. As such, it wasn’t exactly appealing to the android to have to power down in an alleyway somewhere. Which was starting to be the only option left, since Hank hadn’t been able to come out on this trip to rent Connor a hotel room. Connor’s reception by the FBI has never been as positive as this woman is giving him, and with her generosity comes curiosity.
In his experience, most people are divided into one of four groups: People who think that androids are a nuisance or are too confused by the technology to be bothered with them, people who hate and fear androids, people who feel entitled to the obedience of all androids, and people who quietly, in the very back recesses of their minds, think that androids might be people in their own right. The last category is probably the rarest that Connor has seen, with only a 6.0-9.2% chance of occurrence in the general population. But Mira’s immediate stepping up left him curious as to which of them she is. Even the most hospitable of people will keep their mouths shut if they truly hate androids.
Finding the time to ask was a delicate task, and Connor decides to wait until they’re properly settled. He smiles the soft, polite smile that his social relations program told him was acceptable in this situation, and nods. With a soft word of thanks and an effort to look more relaxed by sitting down, he remains on high alert for an opportunity to get the information he’s looking for.
His chance comes in the form of a cup of tea and the sound of birds chirping quietly outside the window. So he takes it; and he chooses a question that sounds more like a philosophical debate than a question of morals.
Having it turned back on him makes it more difficult. He doesn’t want to lie, but admitting to the faint suspicion he has -- the chance that he’s compromised -- could get Connor dismantled. “My thoughts on the matter are irrelevant,” he says, calculating every word carefully as he starts to speak. “I was designed to track down deviants. To me, they should be viewed as defective. As if I am recalling them, rather than preventing what I think both of us know is the potential for all-out war.”
He shifts, and the motion is almost human. If his body wasn’t so stiff as he did it, he could almost pass as a real boy. He thinks of the story of Pinocchio, and how a wooden toy got feelings and wanted to be real. He wonders if the desire was really for freedom, or... if maybe it all comes down to just wanting to be able to lie.
“I was not designed to have moral debates,” he continues, a pleasant smile drifting across his face as he speaks. “My thoughts would be statistics rather than opinions.”
