The Start of My Summer Vacation
I recently went on a nice road trip to Montana, Washington, and Oregon. I have relatives in all three states, and hadn't seen them for awhile. Besides, my granddaughter was graduating from high school, and what better way to cover a lot of ground in one trip.
My first stop was going to be St. Ignacius, Montana to see an uncle I hadn't seen in close to 40 years. I headed north from Las Vegas and by nightfall was in Arco, Idaho. on Hwy 26. That was as far as I could go in one day. I was ready for a good night's sleep, but I'm always leery of small town motels. I found the nicest little room at Lost River Motel. It cost me $45 for the night, was clean, and comfortable. AND quiet! Wow, what a score! The next morning at 6:00 AM, I was on the road and saw the most beautiful sunrise.
The second highlight was after crossing the border into Montana, I hit a traffic jam of the best kind.
The rest of the trip to my uncle's was downright boring by comparison!
I arrived at his house on Saturday afternoon. My brother, who lives in Vancouver WA met me there, and we were greeted by a little rain and altogether "unfun" weather. The next morning arrived bright and shiny, and that afternoon we were granted a beautiful display of the mountains to the east of their ranch.
My Uncle Jim and his wife Aimee have a variety of animals. Aimee teaches riding to at-risk children, so they have a number of horses and ponies. They also have a Siamese cat named Frank, a Chinese Crested dog named Pogo, and a Great Dane. Oh yeah, and a Coatamundi named Taz.
What a great way to start a trip!
