idk if this is exactly what you wanted but have coby taking care of his mentally ill dino bf
“Drake?” Coby said softly, as he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes.
He padded out of the room he shared with Drake and into the hallway, approaching the taller man cautiously. He wondered if Drake were sleepwalking when he caught a glimpse of his eyes, glazed over and vacant.
Coby didn’t consider himself a light sleeper, but Drake was such a heavy and reassuring weight in his bed that he always noticed when Drake wandered off in the middle of the night.
“Drake?” Coby repeated, reaching up to stroke his knuckles over the man’s face. Drake didn’t react beyond a faint twitch around his eyelids. He was half in his Zoan form, his blue eyes staring out from underneath hard scaled brows.
Coby glanced down, smiling slightly when he saw clawed talons tearing out of his Marine-issued slippers, like he had transformed without noticing. Coby wasn’t sure if he liked his lover like this, it was always harder to tell what he was thinking.
“Drake, sweetheart. Come back to me.”
Eventually Drake blinked and looked around, confused until he looked down and saw Coby.
“Ah, where-?”
“You were sleepwalking again. Did you remember to take your medication before we went to bed?”
“No, I forgot. I’m sorry, I did not mean to scare you.”
“It’s okay, I think you left them in your coat pocket. Come back to bed and I’ll get you a glass of water to take them with.”
Drake nodded and leaned down, as if to kiss him, but made a small confused noise as his snout bumped Coby’s forehead. “Ah, I didn’t realise that I-”
“It makes you feel safer, doesn’t it?” Coby said gently, leaning up onto his toes to kiss the ridge of Drake’s brow.
“Yes. I feel like I can protect myself, and you, a lot better this way.”
Coby smiled and sighed as Drake easily swept him into his scaled arms, cradling him close as he walked back to their bedroom.
Drake placed Coby gently on the bed, turning back from beast to man to kiss him properly. Coby always felt a strange fascination, feeling his skin change from cold back to warm. He stroked Drake’s chest as they kissed, sighing when he remembered he had to get back up. Drake watched him with a longing look as he rolled off the bed.
“Let me get you that glass of water, and stay right there!” Coby said, putting a hand on his hip and pointing firmly at the floor. “I don’t want you wandering away again.”
“Why would I wander away, when you’re here with me?” Drake said, amusement glinting in his eyes.
He gave a small fanged grin as Coby blushed ferociously from his shoulders towards his hairline. It wasn’t the first time Drake had rendered him speechless, and probably wouldn’t be the last, either.
11. “You are being extra sweet today.” Drakecoby

“You’re being oddly sweet today,” Drake said. He ran his fingers through Coby’s hair, marveling at how much longer it’s gotten since their last run-in. It was out of its customary tie, the piece of silk brocade dropped somewhere in the room and Coby’s hair messily laying on his shoulders.
“Maybe I’m just in a good mood,” Coby replied. He stretched languidly, back popping slightly before he flopped back down into Drake’s lap.
“Seriously, you haven’t tried to convince me to leave the marines once the entire time we’ve been together today.” Drake rolled the pirate over so that he could look Coby in the eyes. They were unreadable, but something in them seemed off. “Something’s up.”
Coby just sighed and pushed himself up. “I just figured it would be nice to be able to see you without stressing you out for once, Drake,” he said. It sounded like the truth, or at least a truth.
“You always stress me out.”
“I’d say that’s uncalled for, but I tend to do that to people.”
“Coby you have an ex-Admiral on your ship. I am considerably more stressed about what you do now than I was before.”
Coby laughed a bit. “He doesn’t do much, Drake, I swear. Got us out of some trouble with Blackbeard and that’s about it.” He reached over and brushed an errant strand of hair from Drake’s face, fingertips lingering. “Not going to try to arrest me?” Coby sounded almost like he was joking, but there was a serious undertone to his words.
Humming, Drake shook his head. “Not today.” It was going to be too much work to get Coby in handcuffs and keep him in them long enough to get to the nearest base. That’s if they could get him to the base without Coby’s crew bearing down on Drake’s ship and leaving Drake and his crew stuck on some atoll in the middle of nowhere.
Coby stared at Drake with magenta eyes that saw all too much for a while before he nodded with a slight smirk. “That’s fine. The crew would find you anyway,” he said. Coby scooted around so that he was seated in Drake’s lap and could lean against the marine’s chest.
“I hate how ominous that was.”
Coby giggled. “It was supposed to be. C’mon, we’ve got a couple hours left before my crew is going to start poking their noses around.” He nuzzled Drake’s cheek and gently shoved him down.

49. “You’re just some drunken bastard that can’t do anything right!” Whispers cobydrake
Drake shot up in bed, vestiges of the dream echoing in his mind. Beside him, Coby shifted in his sleep, at peace for once. He was still fully clothed, minus the boots Drake had taken off of him, and Drake was loathe to wake him, just because of some nightmares.
The phrase “drunken bastard” flitted to the top of Drake’s thoughts, and he flinched violently, falling to the floor with a thud. He rolled from his side to a seated position, shoulders slumped and using the bed as a headrest. Closing his eyes, he let the little tremors from his nightmare slowly stop.
A hand petting his hair had Drake’s eyes snapping open. He jerked away, twisting around to see Coby sleepily reaching out to him.
“Drake?” Coby mumbled. “’vrything ok?” He pushed himself up a bit and rubbed tiredly at his eyes.
“Its fine, Coby, go back to sleep,” Drake soothed.
Coby shifted back and forth a bit, eyes squinting so he could pull Drake into focus. Finally he settled and reached out to cup Drake’s cheek in his hand. “Something upset you,” he stated. Clearly sleep had been banished from his mind, and Drake silently cursed. This was the first night in weeks he’d convinced Coby to come to bed before midnight and the other marine had basically fallen into bed and passed out there immediately.
“It’s nothing.”
“Drake.” Coby had a look on his face that was far too serious for ass o’clock in the morning. “All I’m reading from you right now is hurt. Come back to bed and let’s talk?” The mission had them both strung tight, the few hours they could get each night supposed to be a respite.
Coby patted the bed encouragingly, and Drake clambered into it. He let Coby manhandle him so that they were both comfortable. Coby threw the blanket over both of them, a sweet enough gesture even though they both knew that Coby would be wrapped up in it by full morning.
“Want to tell me what that was about?” Coby asked softly. He drew little patterns on Drake’s chest with a calloused finger.
“Just a nightmare. It’s nothing, Coby.”
Coby stopped moving. “Drake, how many times have I woken you up because of nightmares? It’s not nothing.” Drake finally looked at his eyes, blue meeting magenta. Part of their whole arrangement had started because Coby slept better when in contact with someone.
Drake sighed. Coby could be tenacious when he wanted to be, and Drake wanted to go back to sleep. “Just… My father.”
“Oh.” Coby’s expression softened. Everything about him softened. He leaned up and pressed a tiny kiss to Drake’s cheek, making the older marine flush. “I’m sorry.” Coby didn’t know details; Drake had never given them. All Coby knew was that Drake’s father had been a marine who turned pirate. Out of respect, Coby had never gone through the files he knew he could probably find with ease.
“I’m here, Drake.” Coby took one of Drake’s hands in his and gently pressed his lips to the scarred knuckles. “Try and get some more sleep.”
Drake curled a little further around Coby. Dawn was still a ways off. Coby slid off to sleep easily enough, still worn out from the day’s activities. Drake lay awake a while longer before he too drifted off, just as the sky was slowly working its way towards grey.
