A northern Arizona resident has died from the pneumonic plague, health officials confirmed on Friday, the first such death in Coconino Count
FLAGSTAFF, AZ (AZFamily) — A northern Arizona resident has died from the plague, health officials confirmed on Friday, marking the first such death in Coconino County in nearly 20 years.
The person was recently treated in a Flagstaff emergency room and died the same day. It has since been confirmed that the patient’s death was caused by pneumonic plague, which is a severe lung infection caused by the Yersinia pestis bacterium.
