ROUND 2 — Match 8 of 138
Lestat de Lioncourt (Interview with the Vampire)
Problematic because: "Toxic. Manipulative. Selfish. Egotistical. Jealous. Clingy. Codependent. Vampire who delights in killing. There's a pretty prominent instance of severe domestic violence and at least one quick instance of child abuse, and just a lot (a LOT) of emotional abuse/manipulation at his hands. And now he's a rockstar, with all the excess and abuses associated with that. Not to mention the incestuous situationship he's got with his mother." Propaganda: 1. "I meannnnnn he's hot, he's cunty, and he's kind of funny" 2. "His fear of abandonment/loneliness/being alone and his desperate need to be loved is honestly very understandable, very sympathetic. He's incredibly charming and charismatic to mask those insecurities but they're very much a core component of his character. His backstory earns him a bit of sympathy and there's also the fact that the story we've been told so far is one-sided and Lestat himself insists much of it is untrue. How much? Which bits? Can we believe him anymore than the other unreliable narrators? Who knows, but it's utterly fascinating to follow along."
vs. Q (Star Trek)
Problematic because: "He has the general flaws you might expect of a character who is omnipotent; a massive ego and unwillingness to consider the needs and desires of anyone he sees as beneath him (that being anyone who isn't also a Q and some who are). People are mostly playthings to him, and if you actually manage to get his interest that just means he will make your life even more complicated." Propaganda: "He's so fun! Dealing with him in person would be a nightmare, but watching your favourite characters deal with his antics is always a good time. And John de Lancie inhabits the role with so much humor and charm it's just impossible not to love him whenever he's on screen."
