I would think the biggest thing would be him feeling he can be so open with you.. it's not that he doesn't want to be open to you, he's just so used to being closed off.
He doesn't want to open his heart to someone else, because he knows it'll only hurt worse if he loses you.
If the others know he's interested in you, he won't like all the teasing he'll have to put up with.
He would never mistake his love, for a weakness.
