Hello ! I just saw your post about the custom dice-stickers for each Bg3 companion. I really like learning about flowers meaning. Would you mind sharing which ones you chose for each companion and their meaning ? I'd love to know ! Thank you :)
Hi there! So disclaimer, I am no expert on flower symbolism so I made do with several hours of googling and hoping my sources aren’t talking out of their asses 😂
OVERVIEW:
BG3 Dice Stickers featuring original artwork and designs for all the Baldurs Gate 3 Companions! Includes dice for Astarion, Gale,
- Shadowheart: For Shadowheart I chose blue orchids, which are the closest real life flowers to Night Orchids, and then modified them to be more night orchid-y, and white roses. Blue orchids are associated with beauty, uniqueness, spirituality, loyalty, and power. White roses are associated with purity, new beginnings, and honesty. I felt this combination touched on the various aspect of her journey and arc.
- Astarion: For our vampire friend I chose asphodel (associated with death and mourning and and indication that he is ‘remembered beyond the tomb') and red spider lilies (associated with death, renewal, balance between life and death). It is a bit heavy-handed on the death thing but, well, he IS undead.
- Lae’zel: For Lae’zel I wanted to go with a yellow-green-black theme and eventually landed on a bouquet of dandelions and black roses, truly a strange combo but I think it works. Dandelions symbolize hope, healing, resilience, over-coming challenges, transformation, and growing in difficult conditions… all of which are big parts of her character growth. Black roses are associated with bravery, strength, resilience, facing challenges with courage, defiance, new beginnings.
- Gale: For Gale, I really leaned into how much of an absolute simp he is, using purple heliotrope (devotion, eternal love, admiration) and purple rocket larkspur (new beginnings, an open heart, strong bonds of love, sincerity, dedication). Perhaps not as deep as the other so far, but his love got him into his personal mess and, if you are romancing him, he is so incredibly sweet and devoted (I love him so much).
- Wyll: For Wyll, I got a little cheeky, using both red amaryllis (deep love, determination, pride, strength) and viscaria…. Which indicates an invitation to dance. Haha right
- Karlach: For Karlach, I used Birds of Paradise, which is associated with joyfulness, freedom, excitement, faithfulness, thoughtfulness, and love, all of which fit her character to a t. Coincidentally, the blooms also look like tongues of fire, which I love.
- Halsin: For Halsin, I went with meconopsis (peace, spiritual enlightenment, resilience, tranquility, a sense of the unattainable) and oak branches (which are traditionally associated with strength, endurance, longevity, wisdom). He’s old and wise and spiritual. Plus the oak was an obvious choice.
- Minthara: For Minthara, I picked purple gladiolus (grace, nobility, charm, mysteriousness, strength, integrity, endurance), white gladiolus (profound respect, sincerity, endurance, integrity, strength), and dahlia (pride, inner strength, elegance). I felt like this fit well, but also gladiolus is literally named after Ancient Roman swords. It’s literally a sword flower, too good to pass up.
- Jaheira: For Jaheira, I used gladiolus again, this time in green (yes they come in green apparently). Green gladiolus is associated with strength, new beginnings, generosity, sincerity, remembrance, and moral integrity. I also threw in some eucalyptus (associated with strength and protection) mostly for the aesthetics and composition.
- Minsc: And last but not least, for Minsc I picked orange alstroemeria (symbolizing friendship, devotion, strength, prosperity, aspirations) and some ferns (traditionally associated with resilience, new life)
