I was at work today, at the library. I was shelving books and saw a copy of "11/22/63". Curious, I read the back cover.
According to the cover, it is the story of two guys who find a portal to the past in a dingy local dinner. So, they decide to go back in time and try and stop JFK's assassination.
"11/22/63" was written by Stephen King. While his writing is often not great, his success undeniable.
If he can get 4/5 star reviews for what is basically IRL fanfiction, you shouldn't worry about if what your writing is "cringy" or "bad", if you put it out there, people will like it. Fanfiction, head cannon's, smut, original stories, whatever. You always have somebody that will appreciate the work you do.
