✂ - a vivid memory
He was tired and he was afraid. The heat of summer seeped in through the walls of the small apartment in Lavender Town, and the thirteen year old was sprawled out across a couch in his living room, somewhere between the clutches of a sleepy stupor- must not sleep -and blearily watching the television.Rockets had been spotted more and more frequently these days, even around the sleepy town of Lavender. He’d even run into one while walking home one day, and if anything, he felt like he’d narrowly dodged a bullet. And on top of all that, Mr. Fuji had gone missing and the volunteers at the Pokemon House were in a state of panic.
He felt like he was drifting to sleep again, despite the torrent of terrifying nightmares that had been plaguing him the past few weeks. But he was tired, so tired…
“Breaking News as we’ve just received word that the Silph Company Headquarters in Saffron City has been overtaken by a dangerous criminal organization called Team Rocket. Police confirm that the organization has taken all employees in the building hostage and that approach at the time being is considered too risky.”
Colby’s eyes snapped open, his full attention now on the news broadcast.
“Authorities estimate the number of hostages to be somewhere in the range between fifty and one hundred. It is believed that the CEO of Silph was the main target, and he is reported to be among the hostages taken. The motives behind the criminal organization’s actions are as of yet unknown, though some speculate it to be related to a purported prototype of Pokeball that Silph has been working on, but no further details are yet known. The city has entered lockdown, with no one being allowed to pass at Saffron’s four entrances, and a police patrol being stationed at checkpoints around the city. Everyone located within or nearby Saffron City are urged to stay in their homes and lock their doors for their own safety.”
Eli Rydinger did not work for Silph, rather a branch of their competitor, Devon. However, Colby’s dad commuted back and forth into Saffron for his job. His stomach clenched in fear, and even as he nervously stroked the back of his Meowth, Reginald, the terror churning inside of him refused to go away.
It wasn’t until an hour later that Eli Rydinger walked in, apologizing for being late because traffic was terrible. He hadn’t heard about Silph, so he had been initially confused as to why his thirteen-year-old son rushed to hug him, trembling ever so slightly.
