Steven Week - a rarepair creation challenge

Come join us in celebrating Steven rare ships, from February 11 to 15, 2019!

Create something (fic, fanart, graphics, etc.) for any Steven ship (except for standrew, of course, this is all about rarepair visibility). Tag @rarebuzzships​ in it and use the #rarestevenweek, which i’ll be tracking. You can also add Ao3 works to our Ao3 collection.

All creations will be reblogged during the week and added to a round-up post.

Y’all neither Andrew nor Ben can resist reaching out to Steven and honestly? I do not blame them.

i know you said you're not taking any requests but in light of all this new colim content will you be writing them in the future????

Even the rain falling hard on him couldn’t dampen Steven’s anticipation. He would wait on this deserted street corner until Ben showed, oblivious to the warm pubs and coffee shops around him that wanted nothing more than to offer shelter and warmth.

He could text Ben, tell him to meet elsewhere. But the rain actually felt good on his too tight skin, fizzy with anticipation.

They hadn’t seen each other in months. At first Steven didn’t think it would be that bad. After all, Ben was hardly his closest friend in LA. But something happened when he moved. He started thinking of Ben all the time – or maybe he always had, but never noticed, because Ben was always right there.

So they started texting, and after a while, even that wasn’t enough, so they started video calling, and after a while, Ben just went god I wish I could hug you. It had been a long day – a long week, a long month – and Steven almost cried at that. What he missed the most since he got to New York, was physical closeness, human touch. He had friends, sure, but no one he knew well enough to just hug for no reason.

Maybe Ben saw it in his eyes. Maybe Ben knew him more than he thought.

But the next time they videocalled, Ben had stars in his eyes and could barely sit still.

“I got a surprise for you,” he said.

And then he flashed a piece of paper. The lighting was bad, Steven could only see a white rectangle.

“Well that’s anticlimactic,” Steven teases.

Ben blushes and says. “It’s a plane ticket.”

“Where are you going?”

“To see you, silly.”

Steven can’t reply for a long time. His throat is dry, his chest feels tight.

“Is – is this okay?” Ben frowns. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have assumed…”

“It’s wonderful.” Steven finally finds his voice. “I can’t wait, Ben, this is such a great surprise!”

So there Steven is. Standing in the dark, in the pouring rain, vibrating out of his skin with excitement and something else.

Something that’s been growing in a secret corner of his heart for the past months.

Something he doesn’t feel when he’s about to meet his other friends, no matter how long it’s been since they last met.

The rain stops. Steven looks up, and there, across the street, is Ben.

Two strides and Steven is in the middle of the street.

“You made it!”

Ben hurries across to meet him, dropping all his stuff in his wake, duffel bag and backpack, not giving a damn about it being the middle of the street, or the asphalt being still wet from the rain.

He falls into Steven’s arms and they share the longest, tightest embrace, as if neither of them wanted to let go in case they’d disappear.

“Steven,” Ben gasps.

“You’re here,” Steven says incredulously.

They’re both drenched, hair plastered against their foreheads, clothes soaked, shivering against each other, yet they can’t let go.

Ben pulls away to look at Steven, cups his cheek. “I’m here.”

Steven doesn’t even think about it. That small part of his heart that’s been trying to make him understand for months suddenly takes over. He leans in, and so does Ben.

Their lips meet and everything fades away. The cold, the rain, Ben’s uncomfortable plane ride, his luggage getting drenched in the middle of the street.

Nothing matters except being together at last, touching at last, breathing the same air and looking through these lovely eyes without a grainy screen between the two of them.

“It was a one-way ticket,” Ben says, through chattering teeth.

“I wouldn’t have let you go back anyway.”
