Visual Diary 7
I've been thinking a lot lately about design but in regards to systems, processes, and operational protocols. As I begin to think of transitioning out of my professional role, I think of how I can capture my duties and the responsibilities of my institute in a way that will not just keep the processes going at a status quo level but how can I design an operational process system for program maintenance while accommodating the design on a path forward for institutional growth.
As I think of the tools I can use, several come to mind. first I can utilize feedback from current stakeholders as to how the institute has performed during my tenure as an Assistant Director. I want to marry this feedback with that of the students and faculty I've supported over the last eight years. This feedback from everyone can contribute to the storytelling of how important supporting my programs has impacted me professionally, and personally, and how it is influencing how I would like to leave my role for the next administrator to step into it confidently and equipped to elevate the institute even higher than I.
Thinking of how to design program management solutions in a system, sustainability continues to pop up for me. How can I create a system of program operations management that can withstand the upcoming changes and does not have to be redesigned each year or with the onboarding of each new employee? Some of the tools I'm using now are Google Docs so that the information can be easily shared among colleagues for input and review purposes. Also other project management tools such as Asana and Mira boards.
These programs help facilitate big design thinking and structured project management tools with storytelling to design and learn pathways to our operations for current and new staff. Our institute has also used our Learning Management System - Canvas as a tool for housing our program resource training for staff and faculty.
