My Collage Process
Thank you so much Anon!! I have been making collages for awhile but never had the confidence to post them anywhere, so it has been really nice to see that there are people interested in seeing them!
My process is pretty simple but time consuming, im sure there is a much more efficient way to make them but what I do works for me!
1. Finding images !!
For me, finding images is the most time consuming part! I primarily use Pinterest to find images, quotes, backgrounds, stickers, and all elements I want to use in my collage. It can be difficult sometimes to find new images or images that actually represent/capture the character. When pulling images, I am very picky with the images I use, as I try to aim to use high quality images so that they don’t look grainy on the collage. I also only use pictures of characters that directly come from the show/movie,etc.
- So for all my Hazbin Hotel collages, all the images of the characters have come directly from the show. I do this to avoid stealing art and not giving credit to the original creator. IF I ever do use fan artist work of characters, I will mention them in the description. That being said, if you have fanart of your favorite character you want me to use in a collage, please let me know, I would love to try doing this! The artist will always get credit :3
There are also a lot of blogs on tumblr that post digital collage elements
2. Cleaning up the images
This step isn’t necessary but it makes it easier! I use Canva pro to make all the images transparent. This makes the collage look cleaner, and will lead to less time spent erasing the backgrounds of images. Im sure there are other websites besides Canva that can get rid of backgrounds.
3. Creating the Collage
This is the fun part! I use Procreate to lay out all my images, and actually put the collage together. The video below shows me in procreate cleaning up images if needed, and laying out the collage. This part usually only takes 25-40 minutes, but sometimes longer depending on how complex the collage is and how many layers there are. My collages usually have over 50 images in them, and take around 3 hours to find images, clean up and create the collage.
Pinterest also has its own built in collage feature, but I am not the biggest fan of it. It often decreases the quality of your collage when downloading which is a major downside of it. Otherwise, I think it’s a cool place to make collages if you don’t have procreate!
Here is a video of my Procreate process
(Sorry idk why the video makes it look so low quality oml)
Hopefully this kinda answered your question! Thank you so much again!!
