“it's  weird  seeing  bryce  without  zodiac.”  it's  weird  seeing  them  here  period.  and  the  only  reason  alyla  hasn't  taken  custody  of  them  for  the  night  and  asked  what  the  hell  they're  doing  here  is  because  she's  seen  them  with  other  people.  doesn't  mean  she  hasn't  kept  an  eye  on  them  from  a  distance,  though.  purely  out  of  a  sort  of  protective  instinct,  of  course.  leo  would  understand  that.  “like,  obviously  it'd  be  just  as  weird  to  bring  the  dog.  but  i'm  used  to  them  being  like.  a  unit.”  is  that  bad?  she's  not  sure.  or  really  thinking  about  it  at  all,  because  she's  not  entirely  sure  why  she's  here  herself.  spite,  probably,  towards  certain  people  (  cough,  parents,  cough  )  who  were  furious  the  first  time  she  went  to  a  (  much  tamer  )  college  party  years  ago.  never  has  been  able  to  let  anything  go  and  not  about  to  start  now!  at  least  they'd  be  happy  to  know  all  she's  done  all  night  is  pull  her  friends  aside  out  of  the  sea  of  people  to  compliment  their  outfits  and  gossip.  and  yes,  this  does  count  as  gossip.  even  if  it  sounds  like  fishing  for  information.  she's  talking  to  leona,  but  alyla's  focused  on  the  crowd.  keeping  tabs  on  anyone  and  everyone.  for  further  gossip,  of  course.  “so  i  know  the  scared  wet  kitten  look  is  like,  his  default,  but  does  that  ever  go  away?  i  would  have  thought  they'd  figure  out  that  i'm  not  gonna  bite  his  head  off  by  now.”

she’s  still  stretching,  warming  up  muscles,  the  back  of  one  foot  caught  in  her  hand  then  dropped  in  favour  of  the  other.  it’s  the  morning,  and  it’s  still  kind  of  cold  in  that  springtime  way,  dew  that  clings  to  your  skin,  the  smell  of  life  returning  in  the  air,  fresh  grass  and  early  flowers.  she’s  early,  likes  being  early  for  things  mainly  because  she  hates  the  feeling  of  being  late,  like  she’s  supposed  to  be  somewhere  and  she’s  failing,  like  time  is  slipping  though  her  fingers  and  she  just  can’t  seem  to  grab  it.  she’s  not  the  only  one  that’s  early,  luckily  enough,  mikael  there  with  her  waiting  for  the  others  to  arrive.  they  made  it  through  the  awkwardness  of  introductions  last  week  when  the  palladian  run  club  first  allowed  langston  students  in,  now  their  old  friends,  except  for  having  never  actually  had  a  conversation.  there’s  a  silence  between  them,  not  unpleasant,  more  peaceful  in  the  quiet  of  the  morning,  but  she  breaks  it  anyways,  “  thanks  for  letting  us  crash  your  run  club.  ”  all  good  humour  and  gratitude,  “  it’s  way  more  fun  with  you  guys,  plus  i  hate  trying  to  navigate  a  new  place  all  on  my  own.  ”
