Old internet company trying to scam me

I signed up for the free internet essentials program that has since ended with an internet company that offered to connect you. This was years ago now. And now they want to bill me like they did not immediately cut me off when the program ended. I told them on the phone that I wanted to cancel it. It was hard to get through. They put up roadblocks. I was caregiving for my post-chemo mom. I was working full time. I still cancelled. I sent back the router and cables. They want to charge me for months of internet I never received nor did I sign up for a paid plan with them. I never signed anything. And now they have sent me to collections, sucks for them since it's not my policy to deal with collection agencies. I learned at Consumer Law Center in San Jose years ago and learned about the Rosenthal Act. It basically forces the original debtor to have to deal with the debted directly and you cannot send them to collections. You can just send a letter to collection agency (written in a specific in legalese and certified for proof) stating that it is not your policy to deal with them. If they continue to pester you you have a case you can sue them for. You can even inform them when you call them that actually you're recording them and to give you the address for certified mail. If they refuse you can sue them since they are already recording you until they for not ponying up the right address. You can then settle with the original creditor.
