#ColonialSquare 25 architectural fragments from the magnificent Equitable Life Assurance Society of the USA Building (later the Colonial Mutual Life Building) in the #CarltonGardens. The ELAS wanted to build the "grandest building in the Southern Hemisphere", designed by noted Austrian architect Edward E. Raht and built 1891-96. The ELAS left in 1936 & the building was demolished - with difficulty - in 1960; the sculpture’s at #MelbourneUni #UniMelb #MelbourneMuseum (at Carlton Gardens)
