Foreign self-image is an artistic approach to the themes of uprooting, destruction, reconstruction, memory and identity. In calm camera images, ruins of houses as well as demolition tongs are shown, which destroy houses, eat them away – an illustration of the loss of living space and home, whether through displacement or expulsion. These images are complemented by long static shots in counterpoint, depicting the slow and laborious reconstruction of living space. Beyond that, the digitalization and abstraction of destruction by war situations are shown in partly animated black-and-white shots from 3D video games. These are in turn countered with Super-8 film material that shows traces of immaterial childhood memories from the past. The composition of the film images connote a strangeness – like a foreign body in the new social structure. Simultaneously, there runs a loop-like cycle of ever-recurring events. © 2020 Likes: 0 Viewed: source
