Modern colorism is just black female competition
We all know the history of colorism and the house slave versus the field slave dilemma, but I have observed that the roots of this battle have since changed, since ideas of blackness have evolved. It is true black women have their picks and chooses of color preferences amongst black men, but I have observed that only amongst the ladies do these picks and chooses have personal affects. Now I could be wrong because I don't know what it's like to be a dark skinned black man or a light skinned one, but I do know that regardless if he's Terrence Howard yellow or Taye Diggs black, if he's somebody, his mate might not look like his mama. No, I'm not about to have a "when he get on he gone leave yo' ass for a white girl" moment (even though that is exactly what Kanye did). This is about the fact that brown girls are all fired up about being overshadowed by yellow women, when light skinned black women are not the opposition at all. Think about it. You haven't heard the term redbone since before Lil Boosie went to jail. These days guys are all hyped up about foreign. Which is literally an expression for any woman not black. Meanwhile us females are still claiming chocolate or caramel like we're repping some gang. This is all just competition. Black women have their own barrel inside of the barrel and we can't fathom the idea of the next sista making it to the next level or getting there before we do, and how silly of us to hide that by sheer complexion. Beyoncé said get in formation and that ain't color coordinated, we all can have seats at the table, just wait your turn.
