Quetzal time baby!

I once got a quetzal facepainted on but the lady who did it didn't know what it was so it was slightly sad. Still cool though! Was gonna do a different bird but people left me birds when I asked and I was reminded I love this one. Like love it. Thank you for leaving me the bird I love it so. Like love it it's so awesome and it's colorful and long tail. Bird. <3

i think the previous anon is trying to be mean "oh you're stealing this culture" but i genuinely think your stuff is convergent evolution! colorful animals!

yeah, im quire aware of and careful about the similarities my work has to allebrijes. i definitely don't want to be appropriative, but i also think that many people's only exposure to colorful sculptural creatures is allebrijes, so anything remotely like that becomes an allebrije in their mind - which is a bit of a pet peeve of mine at this point.

i wonder if it's also especially prominent in the US because mexican folk art is the main flavor of folk art people here get exposed to.
