Sad Masquerade Girl
This is a free page by Jennifer Stay from Coloring Bliss on youtube. She has really good videos (and a very cute dog, just sayin') so I recommend checking her out!
I went conceptual with this one: the girl seemed serious to my own eyes compared to the masquerade mask and confetti background so I turned that up to 11 in my head and decided to color her sad.
For that, I aimed at using blues for her, but keeping a natural if pale skin tone, put some red around her eyes, and then I figured she was at a party, and probably trying to be festive or look like it, so she's wearing a mask that tries to look like it belongs, except it doesn't quite because it's very desaturated.
Yeah, I kind of went a bit weird here. LOL. But, I'm pretty happy with the results. This was speed coloring with Ohuhus, with cell shading but I can't resist a gradient so she has a gradient in her hair. I used a gel pen to lighten up and texture the yellow of the background, and I used a white pencil to make her paler than my marker set allows.
Oh, lesson learned! Shading with grey works even better than I thought because it doesn't desaturate nearly as much as I expected. I had to go over with grey a few times and finally use complimentary colors to desaturate the mask, flower and grapes. And the hair which was just TOO bright.
