Been wanting to try out a colour variant project for pokemon. The shiny gene is a random mutation that cannot be bred for. Breeding two shiny pokemon will result in a normal pokemon. It can also cause random effects occasionally in other Colour morphs. Melanistic Shinx have a dark brown black coat instead of their bright blue due to more melanin pigment. The black portions are unaffected since they have high amounts of melanin already. The increased melanin also causes darker stripes and eye colour, but for some reason the shiny variant’s stripes and eyes are unchanged. Shiny melanistic Shinx tend to be lighter in colour than their normal counterparts. Albino Shinx have no melanin, causing their blue to turn white. The lack of melanin in their eyes leaves a red appearance to them. In shiny albino Shinx the yellow fur is unaffected because the yellow pigment is not caused by melanin, the eyes with albino Shinx are blue instead of red.
Erythristic Shinx have more red pigmentation, trainers often see the eyes and stripes an assume they’re a shiny variant because they’re similar to the normal shiny colour, but they look orange from the increased red pigment in them. Shiny erythristic Shinx have a red orange colour to their eyes and stripes. Erythristic orange eyes will also be genetic and can be seen in erythristic offspring, unlike shiny orange eyes which will only be inherited by chance if the offspring happens to be shiny. (This is a very rare occurrence) Shiny erythristic Shinx will also have a more orange appearance from mixing with the yellow pigment in their coat compared to the blue. Leucistic Shinx have a total reduction in all pigments, resulting in almost white Shinx. Some of the pigment in their eyes will stay keeping a normal leucistic Shinx’s eyes a soft yellow, while shiny leucistics will be blue. Shiny leucistics retain a bit of their yellow colouration and have more of an off white appearance.
Axanthic Shinx are very popular with morph Shinx breeders. All yellow pigment is removed with this gene. On a normal Shinx you’re left with a blue grey coat, this is also the only way to breed inheritable blue eyes in a normal shinx. Shiny axanthic Shinx are also very popular because of the lack of any blues, yellows or oranges associated with Shinx’ leaving a grey and black coat with light red stripes and eyes. The last morph is Chimera. They look similar to tabby cats with a mix of their normal colour and their shiny colour. Chimeras can come with any other morph, but the colours will always be consistant with the normal and shiny. (Eg. a melanistic chimera will have red/orange, and axanthic will have blue/grey fur) Eyes and stripe colours are unaffected by this mutation, it only effects the light coat, allowing you to tell if the pokemon is shiny or not based on their colouration and the morph type. Patterns also vary between individuals and have different amounts of their secondary colour. All colour morphs stay consistant as Shinx evolves, a melanistic Shinx will evolve into a melanistic Luxio and Luxray.
