1. Red String of Fate: The ring finger of soulmates are connected by a red string. Some people can see them and some can’t. The strings gain more threads once the soulmates find each other, but if one soulmate starts to die, the threads will slowly turn black and fade away. - coltisimagie, could like platonic if you'd like
There is love out there... Even for Ivan.
{as if this would be platonic, I THINK N O T . I’m going hard or going home.}
The Red String was only a legend. A colloquialism. Ivan had never seen his, but he failed to become sure that he wouldn’t find love. So he said to himself. Whoever he brought it up to would tell him, with an uncanny, almost mocking twinkle in their eye, that he had one indeed. But, perhaps they didn’t understand he was thinking literally. Is it there, and he can’t see it? Or is it just a big metaphor?
He could never get his solid answer, not one that he could definitively peg as a yes or a no to the existence of the answer to all searches for love.
So he tied his time, riding the bus to and from his part-time subway sandwich artist gig that funded him when he wasn’t working for a summer camp in the weeks when the university campus the subway was situated on was closed. He tied it up, and tried to date people who said they didn’t see their strings, either because their perfect match was dead, or because they never saw it, either. But none of those relationships had a habit of lasting.
