While in my #COM350 class I learned some of the Budding Goddesses are settling for being someone else's back up plan. As I listened to their stories the young heroes in class were just nervous, scared of rejection and losing face. As I got a little teary I remembered having angsty moments when I felt shy as a Budding Goddess but back then we didn't have #mediatedcommunication with the exception of the telephone. I bet the guys felt shy too. We got over it! We talked, we went on group dates (yes they existed before the bachelor but it was more like four couples and not one dude and a harem), we went on one-on-one dates, we had picnics on top of buildings, bike rides, we watched clouds go by and what do my kids have to look forward to? #netflixandchill? I certainly hope my darlings don't settle for the: What are you doing this weekend? *Nothing much why? I'm not busy so if you want we can hang out. *Ok maybe. As I listen to my husband breathe next to me I am so very #thankfulforthismoment that neither of us had to negotiate the nuances of today's dating culture. #BuddingGoddesses #stopsettling #womanup #Manup #liveauthentic

Final

After finishing the final touches on my Webydo project I am excited about the turnout. It is accessible via mobile devices as well which was really cool to see. In the posts to follow I have shared screenshots of each page of my website. The project includes an opening screen with a background image, an introduction page, a scrolling page with a selection of commercials embedded, and a locations page with a slideshow of pictures of the different Wieden + Kennedy offices.

Webydo Update

As we approached Thanksgiving break, each student in our class had to present their Webydo page and show that they were about 75% complete with the assignment. About two days before presentation day, I decided to change my entire webpage. Although this was a risky move I felt confident that my new idea would surpass my original Barbados webpage. I had not been able to accomplish what I imagined I would with the Barbados page. It was not as aesthetically pleasing as I envisioned. I found a new passion and ran with it. I created a new project after I found inspiration from my past two Summers spent interning in New York City. I interned for an advertising agency called Wieden + Kennedy. The architecture of their offices around the world as well as the content they create had the potential to make a very appealing Webydo project. In my next post I have attached a sample of the images and videos I decided to use in creating my webpage.

Exam

In the midst of starting to build our Webydo pages, we had to take an exam on our knowledge of web terminology and the meaning of certain web and coding elements. We worked in teams of 3 or 4 to create a document containing all the terminology we thought was important. Professor Piland then compiled these documents and crafted a study guide for our class. I used these resources to prepare for the exam. Although there was a significant amount of content on the exam I felt that I prepared well and had developed sufficient knowledge about web terminology throughout the semester.

Webydo Foundation

After having the opportunity to adjust to the new platform, we were responsible for coming up with an idea for our own Webydo page. Initially I wanted to use the visual elements I had been working on previously in the semester and continue to build on those. Therefore, I decided to create my Webydo page around the theme of my Winter Term trip to Barbados that I embarked on last year. I had several aesthetically pleasing images and videos from my trip that I had never officially released to the public. I had used this same idea for my first InDesign project this semester, which can be seen below. By creating a Webydo page for my trip to Barbados, I could provide useful insight and recommendations to the public as well as put my saved pictures and videos on display. I pitched this idea to the class because I knew it could make for a very visually stimulating webpage. My classmates and Professor Piland approved of my idea and I began building it.
