Final
After finishing the final touches on my Webydo project I am excited about the turnout. It is accessible via mobile devices as well which was really cool to see. In the posts to follow I have shared screenshots of each page of my website. The project includes an opening screen with a background image, an introduction page, a scrolling page with a selection of commercials embedded, and a locations page with a slideshow of pictures of the different Wieden + Kennedy offices.
Webydo Update
As we approached Thanksgiving break, each student in our class had to present their Webydo page and show that they were about 75% complete with the assignment. About two days before presentation day, I decided to change my entire webpage. Although this was a risky move I felt confident that my new idea would surpass my original Barbados webpage. I had not been able to accomplish what I imagined I would with the Barbados page. It was not as aesthetically pleasing as I envisioned. I found a new passion and ran with it. I created a new project after I found inspiration from my past two Summers spent interning in New York City. I interned for an advertising agency called Wieden + Kennedy. The architecture of their offices around the world as well as the content they create had the potential to make a very appealing Webydo project. In my next post I have attached a sample of the images and videos I decided to use in creating my webpage.
Exam
In the midst of starting to build our Webydo pages, we had to take an exam on our knowledge of web terminology and the meaning of certain web and coding elements. We worked in teams of 3 or 4 to create a document containing all the terminology we thought was important. Professor Piland then compiled these documents and crafted a study guide for our class. I used these resources to prepare for the exam. Although there was a significant amount of content on the exam I felt that I prepared well and had developed sufficient knowledge about web terminology throughout the semester.
Webydo Foundation
After having the opportunity to adjust to the new platform, we were responsible for coming up with an idea for our own Webydo page. Initially I wanted to use the visual elements I had been working on previously in the semester and continue to build on those. Therefore, I decided to create my Webydo page around the theme of my Winter Term trip to Barbados that I embarked on last year. I had several aesthetically pleasing images and videos from my trip that I had never officially released to the public. I had used this same idea for my first InDesign project this semester, which can be seen below. By creating a Webydo page for my trip to Barbados, I could provide useful insight and recommendations to the public as well as put my saved pictures and videos on display. I pitched this idea to the class because I knew it could make for a very visually stimulating webpage. My classmates and Professor Piland approved of my idea and I began building it.
Second Half of Semester
As we began the second half of our semester in Web and Mobile Publishing, the visual material continued. We started working with an online program called Webydo. I enjoyed my introduction to Webydo, as it is accessible through any standard internet browser. This made it more convenient for me because I could use the program at home, unlike InDesign where I had to report to he communications school in order to access it. I was able to experiment with Webydo in order to get used to the software in preparation for my project that I would focus on for the remainder of the semester.
Midterm Reflection
I think it is safe to say that the first half of the semester in Web and Mobile Publishing has enhanced my learning in a variety of ways. I never thought of myself as talented when it comes to programs like InDesign, Photoshop, and Brackets. However, by going out and experiencing this technological world on my own I was able to teach myself more effective techniques -- one of the best feelings I’ve had all semester. I’m hoping that my progress shows throughout the visual products I have posted on this blog. From my perspective, I was most satisfied with my website out of all my projects up to this midterm point. I think the final design is clean, yet aesthetically pleasing. The website functions well and provides all the necessary information to take someone on a virtual tour through my college years. I know that I won’t stop here. I am excited and determined to continue making progress as I return from Fall Break next week. #COM350
This portion of my autobiographical website takes you on a tour of my recruiting experience as well as my Freshman year.
Thus begins the recollection of my active website. This screenshot captures my homepage. I was most satisfied with my ability to organize a menu, which with one click guides viewers to the different sections of my webpage.
This image shows you the final 2 pages of my website design, crafted in InDesign. I will soon reveal my final website, a product I believe used the most impressive aspects from this design and left out some extra information and visuals to enhance aesthetics.

Website Project Comes Together
As I look back at my experience in Web and Mobile Publishing over the past few weeks, it is exciting to think about the progress I’ve made. I have become much more comfortable working in InDesign. I was able to appreciate the value in planning and focusing on your design before moving towards coding your website. It took hours of work and some frustration along the way. However, in the end I am pleased with my final product. I know this is only the beginning of my progress. Take a look at my upcoming posts to witness the visual aspects of my website project.
As I prepare to create my first website -- a journey through my college career -- I catch myself reflecting on where it all started. This picture does a great job of capturing that exact moment. Here I am signing my National Letter of Intent to play division one lacrosse at the University of Hartford. Want to know how I ended up taking Web and Mobile Publishing at Elon University? Stay tuned for my website and you will find out.
This is a screenshot of my second COM350 project. We were allowed a bit more freedom on this project so I decided to create something that I really enjoyed. Although I think I could have improved the design, I had fun putting this piece together. I used my vertical design to create a promotional site for one of my favorite musicians, Drake. Hip-Hop fans this one’s for you. #Revenge
