Welcome to the Front
arctic-blight:
A deep banging on a steel door amidst the faint howling winds resounded within the barracks, prompting the lone occupant to rouse and open the door, the faint crackling of breaking of ice giving away his movement as he rose from where he lay. An officer stood outside, dignified and stern, ever so briefly scanning Varus from top to bottom then back up before saying their piece.
"We have an assignment for you, Varus" the officer begins, to which Varus responds with the wiping of his eyelids and a yawn.
"Your assignment has two parts. First, you will be accompanying a new operative who is coming in today. You are to show the operative the lay of the land as well as certain vantage points. As for the second, you and the new operative are to locate and eliminate a Watcher scouting party that has been reported to be close tot he vicinity. Here is the personnel file of the new operative that will be joining our ranks today, I trust it will be sufficient for you to know the strengths and weaknesses of your…prospective partner."
An envelope was given to Varus before the officer shortly departed, taking his time to read into it before suiting up, finding himself standing outside on the wall-base’s airship landing bay, vigilantly waiting in the howling cold.
Piltover's defences were holding. But that wasn't quite enough for the sheriff. The Frozen Threat had advanced far too close to her home for her liking. Which is why she and a brigade of other dedicated riflemen were moving past the front line to take the fight to the Freljord.
She'd be with none of them; they had assigned her a partner.
Her expression is blank as the zeppelin berths, and she is the first to disembark. She didn't need a partner; she had one back home, keeping the population safe. But every sniper needs a spotter, and Vi had been unable to come.
War on all fronts. She adjusts the rifle strap across her chest, finding some comfort in the gesture, as she steps down the ramp and out into the biting wind. She huffs, and adjusts her scarf and gloves.
Good weather for a hunt.
