You know what else is confusing? Being told my entire life that I would be exclusively attracted to men when in fact I am a raging queer. I just think it’s so funny when people say “oh mormonism is a cult!” because if you think about it for more than five minutes it makes zero sense

like the church has been around for almost two centuries now. we’re on our eighteenth leader. most cults fall apart after the first leader dies. we have members in almost every single country in the world. almost eighteen million of them now. you cannot reliably extend the control that a proper cult would require over that amount of people and that distance.

all of the “controlling behavior” things that people point to are things that you don’t have to do if you don’t want to. the only effective punishments they have are not letting you have a temple recommend and excommunication.
