It's been a year to the day since I last saw iconic hip-hop journalist Reggie Ossé aka Combat Jack face to face during a visit to the ATL. He told me that he was going through some personal challenges at the time, but physically he looked good and his energy was so authentically dope that I wasn't worried about him bouncing back. There's no way I would have imagined that cancer would be claiming his life 7 months later. Damn! I miss tuning in to his weekly podcast. I miss giving him feedback on how phenomenal each episode of Mogul was. I miss sending him classic music outside of his catalog that I was sure he wasn't up on. I miss texting him to let know him know how dope he was as a journalist. I miss keeping him up to speed with the social injustice happening in Flint. I miss being inspired to personally put together original content with hopes of finding my voice so I could be invited to join the Loud Speakers Network roster. That last part never happened, but as fate would have it, these days I spend most of my professional time producing a winning weekly iHeartRadio podcast/SiriusXM radio show which would have never happened without experiencing Reggie dreaming those dreams. One time for the Undisputed Heavyweight Podfather of Hip-Hop. Peace to his kids, his crew, A-King, and Satori. #CombatCancer #RaiseTheBar #combatjackshow #HipHop #Brooklyn #444 #Internets #heroes #LoudSpeakersnetwork #the80way (at The Music Room)
