1000th Post!
Dynamite
Prologue: Music Block
Dear Stupid Little Book,
Wassup, SLB? Anything happen while I was gone?
Of course not. You’re my diary. That sad little life living within those pages is all about me. And since I know you would want to ask me, I’ll give myself a ‘Wassup?’
Nothing much has been happening around here. Me and the others have been really busy – me with practicing for my grade 6 piano exam and the others (sans Meg) with their music assignments. That means we’ve all been hanging around the music practice rooms (though in separate rooms, because, apparently, you’re not supposed to have more than three in a room).
Speaking of which, I’ve been having a really crazy idea recently. It all started when Matinka picked up her guitar and started strumming some random chords. I don’t exactly know how, but Caley and Tiana somehow got Dynamite by Taio Cruz from it.
Lemme tell you, those two are a-MAY-zing!
They were able to harmonise! Harmonise! To a song that they’d only just learnt to sing acoustically! Sure, there were a few iffy parts, but I knew that with a little work, that song would sound sensational.
And then, like a light bulb, the idea lit up my mind. The idea has the brilliance of a light bulb, too, but that’s to be expected. I came up with it.
We could form a girl band.
I mean, why not? We’re all pretty good singers, if I do say so myself. All of us are well-accomplished on at least one instrument. We fit well together, we get along. Why not?
So that was what I asked them.
Sincerely,
Rose
“Hey, guys, I wanna talk to you ’bout something,” I said, nudging Tiana and Matinka into Music Practice Room 1. It had, by far, the most space and the best piano in the whole music block. Meg and Caley were already waiting inside, hiding LCM bars and a chicken sandwich behind their backs so any possible passing teacher couldn’t see and kick them out.
Getting out my piano book and stuffing it on the music rack of the upright piano, also so that any passing teachers couldn’t kick us out for not doing any work, I sat down on the stool. The room was quiet, the other girls waiting for me to tell them exactly what I had dragged them here for. I crossed one leg over the other, gathering my thoughts.
But before I get to that, how about I let you gather yours? Who are these other girls, you ask?
Caley is the third oldest child of six, with two brothers and three sisters. She has the oddest of tastes in music and books, most of which she shares with Tiana and I. She’s the sarcastically funny one of the group. Her family has this deal where when you turn thirteen, you get to choose whether or not you wanted to be vegetarian, and Caley went for it.
Another vegetarian in our group is Matinka. She’s … dirty minded. Like, really dirty minded. I’m so mentally scarred, I can't even look at bananas anymore. Hell, scrap bananas – there was a whole week where I couldn’t look her in the face after she told me … something. But she’s not all bad. Her dirty minded humour is somewhat funny at times (though not child-appropriate) and she acts like she’s on crack most of the time, so you can't really say you’re ever bored around her.
Like Meg. You really can never be bored around Meg. She’s also very hyper, so we sort of have to be careful with her sugar intake – which is really hard to do, by the way. If we were to give her a stereotype, it would be ‘flirt’; she really hates being single (which I find weird, since ‘boyfriend’ has never really been at the top of my agenda). But like the rest of us, Meg has the music bug, and will constantly be glued to her iPod. And Lilo and Stitch. I swear that she’s seen that movie more times than I’ve seen Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
Tiana’s next and the only way to describe her is sassy. Sometimes, in my head, I call her the sassmiester. She won’t let nobody walk all over her, and she’s not one to be shy, either. You know how some New Zealanders are Maori? Well, Tiana’s one of them. Both her mum and her dad are Maori. Her family is huge! She has an older brother (Whetu), an older sister (Moana) and many dozens of cousins. And yet, despite all her family, she still considered me closer to her than any of them, and even payed for my plane ticket to Gladstone when I visited her during the short space of time she was there. She is – truly – my best and closest friend.
While I sat there, gathering my thoughts on what I wanted to tell them, I couldn’t help but think, These four are, honestly, the craziest, most insane, diabolically-minded people I’ve ever met, and yet I can't help but love them all to bits.
“Rose? Hello? Earth to the Cybertronian!” said Caley, waving a hand in front of my face.
I jumped slightly, murmuring a sorry before smiling. “You know you guys mean a lot to me, right?” I asked, meaning to ease them into the idea before laying it on them. They all nodded, each of them seemingly more interested in their assorted lunches. Tiana offered me half her sandwich, and I grinned. “Thunk-oooo!” I trilled, unwrapping the gladwrap and shoving some into my mouth. I chewed slowly before restarting my epic speech.
“You do mean a lot to me. We all mean a lot to each other.” I looked around the room at each and every one of them to see if they were paying attention (which they were, albeit half-heartedly). “I want to strengthen our bond as a group, and to do this, I think we have to–”
“I’m gonna stop you there,” said Matinka, smirking. “I don’t think we’re all into orgies, Rose.”
I rolled my eyes. Leave it to Matinka to say something.
“An orgy wasn’t exactly what I had in mind,” I said drily. “Actually, I was thinking along the lines of … musically.”
That caught everyone’s attention. In the far corner, Tiana straightened up, Matinka and Caley doing the same. Meg, always the odd one, went for a little different, and started to jump up and down in her seat.
“What are we gonna do?” she asked, an infectious beaming smile lighting up her face.
“I was thinking that we could–” I paused, having fun with adding a little dramatic air to the otherwise dull practice room “–make a girl band.”
“YES!” screamed Meg and Matinka in unison, both darting up from their seats to create a little impromptu happy dance that knocked over several chairs. “I throw my hands up in the air sometimes, saying ayo, gotta let go!”
Tiana and I laughed; Tiana ended up falling out of her chair and knocking it over. Our little redheaded friend (no jokes, Caley was, again, a redhead), however, gave them a look that clearly portrayed what she was thinking.
She was obviously thinking, ‘What the fuck? You spazzes.’
To be honest, so was I.
Dear Stupid Little Book,
It went rather well, I think. There were a few details to hash out – like our name and stuff – but we’re gonna get there eventually. I can't wait to see what we’d be like vocally.
Anyway, I’ll tell you later, SLB. I’m tired.
’Night.
Sincerely,
Rose.
A/N: So, can I safely assume you weren't expecting that? Dynamite has been my little pet project for a while, and I decided the time was ripe for something new. It is a One Direction fanfic, but, to be honest, the 1D part will take a while to kick in. You can just ignore the first few chapters if you're only in it for the boys.
Have fun with that. Also, encouragement would be nice. I hardly ever get it on fanfiction.net.
PS: EBONY DON'T YOU DARE SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THIS!! DON'T READ IT, DON'T THINK ABOUT IT, DON'T COMMENT!!
I is with Tiana right now, in Gladstone, and I wants to show her how awesome u guise are
Guise!

Hey There Delilah - Part One
by: comehoran
“Delilah Parks, a normal 17 year old Australian moves to England where she encounters a young curly haired boy named Harry Styles. They embark on a simple love story facing lifes up’s and down’s.”
The detail within this One Direction fanfic is very well written. However, I do notice several spelling errors that need to be fixed!
Whether it’s the text or the fact that the entire fanfic is italicized, it’s somewhat difficult to read the fanfic in general due to formatting but that can easily be fixed.
Overall though, the characters are well developed and the dialogue is pretty good. I liked the fact that the story switched between the main character and Harry’s point of view so that the reader got a true feeling of what both characters were feeling.
Besides those spelling and grammar errors, this is a great piece and I hope you keep up the amazing work!
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
