#comic artist problems

I’m curious, I know one of my indie problems is I need to “advertise” more, so what seems to work well for you guys? Can be what you prefer to receive as a fan or what works well for you to send as a creator.

(presumably the real answer is to do em all to try to maximize your audience, but I’m curious what other people’s experiences are cus I’ve basically done none of these except social media, as a creator or as a fan following creators)

You ever draw a comic page and then realise only when colouring it that it’s basically a Homestuck homage and you didn’t plan it, you just have Homestuck burned into your brain?

This is a scene I had to scream my way through for Let’s Read Homestuck, which may explain why it’s so indelibly lodged in my consciousness... Virtually Ensconced In The Fold Of My Personal Mythology?

I mean.... to be fair, Sarin has so much Kanaya energy being the lesbian “team mum” who thinks she’s “the sensible one” but only fulfils that role with partial success and has a massive crush on a snarky goth, I think this was kind of an inevitability really.

It’s inescapable. If you’re a Homestuck, or have ever been a Homestuck, it will bleed into everything you make afterwards. Forever. It will never completely wash out.

sure, drawing a comic sounds fun, but then you have to draw a person’s face the same two times in a row and that’s no fun at all

You ever go “Ah, I can put together a little handmade zine of some of my personal comics from the past few years,”

then put a bunch of scans together in a template and realize it’s a solid 40 pages of the most obnoxious, cringe, Mortifying Ordeal Of Being Known compilation of thirst and depression you’ve ever seen,

but you still don’t want to cut anything out

In a moment of clarity I realized one of the reasons I’ve been having Career Path Indecision is because I just love all aspects of visual art and storytelling and I want to learn and try everything…guess the only reasonable thing for me to do is to spend decades training under masters of every discipline, like Batman

The thing is, I only want to make things that are so incredibly self-indulgent that I'd rather burst into flames than let anyone else perceive them, and yet if I don't get constant praise for my work I'll die
