Parkland survivor David Hogg aims to 'create the NRA – except for the opposite issues'

Rather than head to college, Hogg plans to hit the campaign trail in key districts to increase the youth voter turnout rate

@loisbeckett does a interview with Parkland survivor David Hogg about his current activism on gun violence with hopes to get NRA backed candidates voted out of office. Hogg is part of the March for Our Lives organization that mainly focuses on officials that accept money from the NRA.

Hogg believes that not much has been done on the gun control issues as school shootings continue to happen. He added that, "You never get numb to these things, but I feel like American society gets kind of desensitized."

Are young people giving up on fighting gun control, because there has been no change? School shootings are becoming the norm and it seems the school system in general are desensitized. I haven't seen any changes to prevent violent acts done to the local high schools yet.

Nursing student says she had to leave school over 'racially biased' hair policy

The aspiring nurse withdrew from her nursing program after being pressured to straighten her natural hair due to so-called safety concerns.

Stories like this force me to seriously consider how I will deal with this type of discrimination if I’m confronted with it.  It takes a lot of hard work and dedication just to get accepted into nursing school.  I would be so hurt and disappointed if my racial features derailed my education.

I am ending my blog for now with Tony. Thinking about how social media has impacted Healthcare, take a step back- how has social media effected your healthcare. How can you use social media to communicate about your health, do you? This article speaks to a man by the name of Tony. He has Locked-In Syndrome; and placed his fight of promoting his wishes to have the “right to die”to be approved via social media. Tony had suffered a stroke while on vacation, while doctors were able to save his life, the event left him completely paralyzed. Tony is only able to communicate thru small head movements and blinking his eyes. He was able with the use of a specially designed computer, to be able to use social media to engage in debates over his healthcare wishes. After his first tweet he quickly gained over 14,000 followers. This is 14,000 followers that will now have knowledge of his condition. That is powerful use of how Healthcare and social media are combining as we move into the future. I wonder how many of those 14,000 followers were medical professionals, celebrities, just the average Joe- but honestly does it matter? We are all on social media together- can we use social media going into the future to enhance our healthcare? I feel like there is a huge potential for us to all come together. Doctors helping doctors. Doctors and nurses helping each other. Medical professionals helping patients. Neighbors helping neighbors, spread across the globe as one human race.

This video explains facts about the deep web and how it came to be the most mysterious and dangerous place in the world. It is interesting on how the world is connected by just a click of a button, especially if a person behind your computer or phone camera is watching your every move. My thoughts about the darknet should just shut down for people’s safety because you don’t know who lurks around your technology access which is the link towards your social media and personal information.  

I know it is not an easy task for the Government to shut down the dark web since they actually use it for job purposes. What makes it hard are the hackers who are willing to go the extra miles and search around the most dangerous playground of the internet.

This is my son, Aaron, when he was 4 years old. He was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor called anaplastic medulloblastoma.  

The first neurosurgeon who looked at my son’s MRI declared that my son would not survive brain cancer because the tumor was too close to his brain stem. This location meant that not enough of his tumor could be removed for a complete resection.  If there is visible tumor left behind after surgery, the chances are very low to successfully treat cancer with chemo and radiation.  

So after two long weeks in Pediatric ICU, we came home and my 4-year-old son couldn’t walk or talk.  I did what most parents do these days: I googled it.  

After searching the internet, I found a clinical trial on the National Cancer Institute website www.cancer.gov for an experimental treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. I applied online and we were accepted into a clinical trial within days of my online application.  Clinical trials must begin within 30 days after surgery, so my ability to find this opportunity online so fast helped to save his life.  

Fast forward to today:  my son, Aaron, is 5 years cancer free, thanks to that clinical trial at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.  I am forever grateful for the miracle of hope we were given by St. Jude.  I am honored to share all I have learned from my personal experience on my journey, and inspired by every story I hear about other children who fight the good fight.

Welcome to my page everyone, especially my classmates enrolled in COMM372t! My name is Alexandra Christman and I am a senior graduating in August with a degree in Communications with an emphasis in Public relations. 

When I am not surfing the web for media addiction articles, I am working out, eating pizza and watching Shamless. I have a younger brother who is completely obsessed with his social media sites. He can spend all day on his phone, ignoring all physical interaction with the rest of the family. It is completely contrary to how I was as a child. I loved being outside, playing field hockey and just being active. It is hard to compare because we do live in such drastically different generations. So, that is why I am focusing my page to find how this media technology addiction affects our health. 

How can you be healthy if you binge watch a TV show for a week straight? You need exercise!
