Tokens of Commander 2015 Edition
So we get 24 tokens in this year’s Commander product, and they all got revealed today. What do the go to? What information can we glean from this list? Let’s find out!
To start, we have a 1/1 colorless Shapeshifter token with changeling. This likely belongs to Crib Swap, although who knows which deck this card appears in.
Next is a 4/4 Angel token. A handful of cards make this token, and it’s difficult to rule out a new card that makes them. My guess, however, is that Sigil of the Empty Throne is showing up to support the enchantment theme in Daxos’s deck.
A 2/2 Cat token huh...it’s not conclusive, but I assume it’s also the enchantment deck that gets it. This time, however, from Ajani’s Chosen.
The only existing card that makes 2/2 first strike Knight tokens is Hunted Dragon. Seems like a great card for Kalemne’s aggressive deck, but this could just as easily be from a brand-new card.
We also have a 2/2 vigilance Knight, and we know that it’s created by the new card, Righteous Confluence. Could there be another reprint that makes them? We’ll find out soon.
These 2/2 Drakes belong to Talrand, Sky Summoner. They are also created by his signature spell, Talrand’s Invocation. One or both could be appearing in the Blue/Red instants-and-sorceries deck.
Our beloved 0/0 Germ token is a product of the living weapon ability. Scytheclaw is a new Equipment with this ability, but will others join it?
TONS of cards make 2/2 Zombie tokens. Dread Summons is the new one that does it, but that far from rules out other undead-raising cards from being included in this product.
Awaken the Sky Tyrant is for sure the card that makes the 5/5 Dragon token. There may be more, but I don't think there will be.
Only a few cards make 3/1 Elemental Shaman tokens. I’m guessing that Kalemne’s deck has a bit of a Giant subtheme, which hints at Hearthcage Giant being included in her deck.
This weird new 5/1 Elemental token is created by Rite of the Raging Storm.
Who brings the 2/2 Bear? Not sure. I’m guessing either Caller of the Claw and/or Bearscape in Meren’s deck. Hoping for Bearscape.
These 4/4 Beasts are products of New Phyrexia, created by Ezuri’s Predation.
This is the 3/3 Elephant from Zendikar, so I’m waging on Bestial Menace getting a reprint. More evidence for that later.
The marks of the Simic Combine are clear. Welcome back, Rapid Hybridization!
Basically anything can make a 1/1 Saproling token. Not even going to take a guess, as it could be one (or multiple) from a very long list.
This 1/1 Snake would be created by Bestial Menace, but it’s worth noting that it’s a Kamigawa Orochi. Why print this art over the Zendikar snek? I’m assuming because Ezuri’s deck contains Orochi Hatchery and/or Sosuke’s Summons.
These 1/2 Spiders are from the old Spider Spawning and the new Arachnogenesis.
Lots of cards make 2/2 Wolf tokens, but it does help convince me that Bestial Menace will be in one of the decks. That doesn’t rule out other Wolf token cards.
This 5/5 Elemental bears the trademark look of a Lorwyn/Shadowmoor being. That’s because it’s the Call the Skybreaker token!
Sup, Patagia Viper?
This 1/1 Spirit token is both White and Black, which could be created by Beckon Apparition or Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts. I’m not sold on either of those cards being included, so maybe it’s from a new card? Not sure here.
This Spirit token, however, is the one created by Daxos himself.
Finally, the Gold token is already made by either King Macar or his signature spell, Gild. I, for one, hope it’s from a brand-new card that makes Gold tokens.
No 1/1 Camarid tokens means no reprint of Homarid Spawning Bed. :-(
