The Governor was, and always had been, cautious about taking new people into whatever group he had been with, whether it be Woodbury, his current River camp, or anything before.
Regardless, as self-nominated leader of this group - after having eliminated any other figures of authority here by less-than-savoury means - he still had to do as the people wished from time to time to solidify their respect and trust in him as a worthy man to continue this group onward.
Artemis seemed strong. She seemed to be able to hold her own in a fight, and she had made it this far without anyone to depend on, as far as the Governor knew. Despite all of this, the Governor still worried that she could end up being a threat to the safety of his people, and if such a thing came to be, then the Governor would not hesitate in putting her down.
He’s dragged from his thoughts when Lilly asks him a question for the second time, punctuating her semi-frustrated attempt to get his attention with his false name: Brian.
He tired of being called a name that wasn’t his own, but that’s how it had been since the beginning of the fall, so he had eventually grown accustomed to it.
The Governor answers whatever she’d asked lazily and then excuses himself, as he leaves his trailer that he calls home to check on the workings of his camp, and check on the newcomer.
“How’re you holding up?” he asks amiably, after finding Artemis following his brief walk-around the campsite.
