I know some people aren’t familiar with these, but here’s the recent contract I wrote up for my latest commission. I just need the customer to sign it and pay the necessary deposit.
You’re welcomed to use this as a template for your customers. Make sure that if you print it to make at least THREE copies. One for the customer, two for yourself. If the customer claims to have lost theirs you’ll have an extra copy for them.
Contract for Crown Royal Quilt
Quilt size: 96”x108”
Setting: 8 x 9 blocks, total of 72 blocks
Color Scheme: Gold and Purple
Fabrics:
Light Purple 1.5 yards
Medium Purple 1.5 yards
Light Gold: 1.5 yards
Medium Gold: 1.5 yards
Print: 4 yards
Backing: 10 yards standard WOF size or 3.5 yards wide backing, whichever costs less
Batting: 100% cotton or cotton/polyester blend, low to medium loft
The quilt will be machine pieced and hand-quilted.
The customer has provided 62 purple/gold Crown Royal bags and has agreed to provide 10 more purple/gold Crown Royal bags.
The customer understands this quilt will take no less than 8 weeks to finish, possibly 12 weeks.
The customer will provide their company logo printed on an 8”x10” paper to be printed on to fabric. The logo will be placed on the back of the quilt.
The customer understands the quilter will do their best to work quickly and keep costs down without compromising the quality of the work.
The quilter understands the finished quilt will be placed up for auction.
Approximate Cost
Fabric: approx. $200
Thread: $15
Batting: $48
Fabric Stabilizer: (used for the Crown Royal back pieces) $20
Labor: no less than $1000 (this includes travel time to the quilt shop(s) to find the necessary fabrics, shopping for said fabric, washing the fabric before use, cutting the bags, cutting the fabric, piecing the blocks, pressing seams, basting the quilt layers, hand-quilting, applying binding, washing and drying the quilt)
Total approx. Cost: $1258, but the price may go up due to how much time it takes to hand-quilt a project of this size.
Hand-quilting will take between 80-150 hours. The hand-quilting will be done in a geometric pattern that complements the theme of the quilt. This will also reduce the amount of time it will take to finish the quilt.
The customer understands a deposit of $350 must be provided. This money will go directly towards purchasing the necessary materials, including fabric, thread, batting, and stabilizer. If the customer requests receipts to see the precise cost of the materials the receipts will be provided when the quilt is finished.
The customer understands they must provide the deposit before the quilter can purchase necessary supplies. The deposit can be made with a check, money order, or paid online via PayPal. To make the deposit via PayPal the customer will provide their email. The quilter will send an invoice for the deposit, providing both the customer and quilter with documentation regarding the deposit.
